The parents of the Danish soldier killed in Iraq, Bjarke Kirkmand, sue the Danish Prime Minister for breach of the constitution in connection with Denmark's participation in the war against Iraq.

This development is of enormous significance, because the plaintiffs have clearly suffered loss through the decision to send Denmark to war in Iraq - their son was killed in the course of the war. Thus, the courts cannot refuse to accept the case at all, as they might have been tempted to do in the case brought some weeks ago by a group of concerned citizens. read full story / add a comment

this morning the italian police started raiding Nestle warehouses throughout italy seizing a number of product ranges amounting to 30 million litres of treated dairy products marketed to nursing mothers.

The reason being they have been found to contain chemicals assocaited with embalming processes, which is unsurprisingly illegal in both Italy and the EU.

Nestle, known to some as the "famine corporation" though Swiss owned, takes over 85% of its profits from sales of "food" in other countries.

The corporation has been long been directly linked to famine, ironically considering it sells sweeties. read full story / add a comment

THE FOLLOWING declaration for a new workers' party was launched by the Socialist Party at Socialism 2005, a weekend of discussion and debate attended by hundreds of young people, trade union and community activists.
Initial signatories include 21 trade union national executive committee (NEC) members and four councillors.

On Nov 16th 1989, six Jesuits (one a graduate of Milltown, Dublin) were slained be elite Salvadoran troops trained at the School of the Americas, Ft. Benning, Georgia, USA. Around the anniversary of these deaths human rights activists gather to march on SOA chanting the names of Latin American dead slain by SOA graduates, some trespass facing 6-18 months in prison.
