O'Connell Street traders have objected to the disruption that would be caused as the street would need to be closed for up to 7 days to erect and then dismantle the stage.
The Phoenix park is obviously out because all the noise might disrupt the dignitaries nin farmleigh. Looks like the "Day of Welcomes" is gonna be off limits to people both from within the current EU and from the accession countries (due to restrictions of the freedom of movement for eastern Europeans)

This decision will possibly have an impact on the level of political protests that will take place on May 1st read full story / add a comment

Early today Scotland Yard did a very unusual thing in calling a press conference after raids on "Islamic militants" , i.e. Muslims. April 7, 2003 was a day we will not soon forget. It was our first protest against the war profiteers who operate out of the Port of Oakland. The police shootings which occurred on that day guaranteed that our commitment would be a long one. This year, on Wednesday, April 7th, we will return to the docks to protest the profiteers and reaffirm our First Amendment rights. read full story / add a comment

At the annual general meeting of SIPTU's Education Branch - which organises 2,000 workers in colleges - a motion calling for no investment in Coca-Cola by our pension funds (or by SIPTU's own pension fund) was carried.

This is in support of the campaign by Columbian workers and their unions to halt the intimidation and murder of trade union activists in Coca Cola bottling plants.

This is just a start, can you get a similar motion passed at your next union meeting? read full story / add a comment
