In the closing weeks of 2006 an opinion poll in the Basque region found over 65% of people there found a return to terrorism "most likely". In the closing weeks of 2006 Spanish prime minister Zapatero said he would carry personal responsibility if the process failed. In the closing week of 2006 a french youngster was held captive whilst his father's van was hijacked & then filled with explosive & driven to Madrid's airport where it was parked on the 29th. The next day 2 Equadorian migrants went to work just as usual & didn't get out of their cars in time to avoid being the first people murdered by ETA in several years. In the last 24 hours after an awkward silence of 3 days, the minister of the Interior has said the "peace process" is "broken" & "not to be saved". read full story / add a comment

I oppose the execution of Saddam Hussein as I oppose the death penalty in all circumstances. The present article is not about reasons for opposing the death penalty but about the trial that imposed the death penalty on Saddam Hussein and is based on a report by Ramsey Clark and Curtis Doebbler.

It's becoming more routine to see armed police on the streets of Dublin. Whether it's meant to reassure the citizenry or intimidate them is not clear.

It's hard to see how the presence of cops with assault weapons on the streets is going to have any effect on the level of crime.

Other effects are more easy to imagine. We can only assume that the Garda with the automatic rifle manning a vehicle checkpoint in Ballybough this afternoon has given some thought to the effect of high-velocity bullets whizzing around on the children and motorists nearby, in the event of him deciding to use such a deadly weapon in a built-up area.

:: INTRODUCTION
--------------------
From 4th to 7th of June 2007 the G8-Summit in Heiligendamm, in the proximity of Rostock, in Germany takes place. Also the mobilization of the Leftwing against the G8-Summit already runs on full speed. Different alliances are founded,several nationwide meetings did take place, also with international participation and an approximate plan of action for the protests is already fixed. Already now there are numerous actions, which mobilize to the events of protest against the G8-summit. Because of the 100.000 expected demonstrators at the Main Manifestation in the Rostock City at 2nd of June 2007 the policeforces are preparing since some time their operation and security plan for the whole region and for Rostock. Here comes an overview over the conditions of the mobilization.

My vision for 2007 is we will revisit 'Who framed Roger Rabbit?'. You see Bertie the half Jack Russell and Kerry Blue (what a mix?) will get rid of the rabbit subtly with some deviance thrown in........According to today's paper's he is making overtures to Joe Costelloe. If the numbers add up in June there could be an FF/Labour coalition.......Now what about McDowell. Let' us get real here. Can you see a Poodle from Ranelagh squaring up to a half Jack Russell and Kerry Blue seasoned Northsider......I don't think so...... read full story / add a comment

A play featuring the writings of the late American peace activist Rachel Corrie: “My Name is Rachel Corrie” has been cancelled at a Canadian Theatre in what can only be described as contemptible self censorship. The Canadian theatre company CanStage has done a three monkeys and pulled down the Iron Curtain of censorship down on it by announcing its cancelling plans to present the play in Toronto : Can stage, won't stage, exit stage. read full story / add a comment
