El pueblo unido jamas sera vencido. Be fully assured of the righteousness of the struggle.
Above are two quotes from a book in the Rossport Solidarity Camp library called 'Clandestines -The Pirate Journals of an Irish Exile' by Ramor Ryan. Ramor describes a memorial concert for a female student leader shot down during the Venezuelan revolution in the early nineties ... and the chant: 'El pueblo unido jamas sera vencido - A united people can never be conquered.' Orla Kaiser from Pallaskenry (http://www.indymedia.ie/article/76611) and Joe Burke & Der Holland from Bantry (http://www.indymedia.ie/article/77007), who all face threat of jail for ignoring high court injunctions instructing them not to protect the health and safety of their families and communities, visited the solidarity camp in Rossport, met with some of the 'Five' and the local Shell to Sea campaigners and received unequivocal support, to be ‘assured of the righteousness of their struggles’ . "The level of defiance and optimism is palpable" - says Shane who donated his friend Ramor's book to the camp library. On Saturday night at the camp it was Joe Burke who was telling us not to give up the fight. On Monday evening Orla & Stefan Kaiser left Mayo with the words of Willie Corduff ringing in her ears. "Don't give up, never give up." read full story / add a comment

On August 28 last year, the 26-year-old Dublin woman Celine Conroy was found dead in a pool of blood while on holiday in Alicante, Spain. This event is to raise money for the Conroy family, so that they can be represented in court at the enquiry into the death of Celine. Spanish law allows representation of the victim's family at court proceedings, however this will cost the Conroy's €10,000. Please come along on September 15th and help the Conroy family ensure justice for Celine. read full story / add a comment

Most Irish readers will probably not recognise the name Alfredo Stroessner, nor upon learning he was the military dictator of Paraguay (one of the smallest least productive or even individually characteristic states of South America) think him significant. Many Irish readers will wonder why I even both bringing their attention to his imminent death at 93 years in Brasilia where he has lived in exile since 1989. Alfredo Stroessner as dictator of Paraguay (1954-1989) offered exile to the World War 2 Nazi leadership, working closely with the group "ODESSA", his regime facilitated the proven flight & indentity changes of individuals such as Josef Mengele and is still suspected by some as organising the escape from justice of Martin Bormann and even more historically perversive - Adolf Hitler himself. As such an instrumental character in the post war flight of Nazi's and SS, many readers might be surprised to know Stroessner enjoyed in his time excellent relations with the USA. & as such played a key role in "operation Condor" that installed right wing fascistic dictatorships throughout the continent. & even murkier, saw ex-officers of the SS return to work for the CIA and local intelligence services of the dictatorships of Chile, Argentina & Brazil. read full story / add a comment
