Almost since i came to live in Catalonia, people have spoken about their "estatut" the reform of the relationship between their local and historical government and that of the Spanish state established under the constitution agreed at the transition to democracy.

& i've done my best to explain the background and contemporary issues to readers in Ireland, because for many reasons it ought interest them.
Many previously would have thought constitutional issues in Spain stopped at the Basque.

This morning the deputies in the Catalan Parliament, standing up one by one and gave their final "yes" or "no" to each article, to end this process in a public and historic manner & enter the video mp3 files of telly.

No deaths nor Wars nor soldiers in uniform or balaclava read a proclamation. Its an example to follow. I hope these fine words will build a fine society. Coz I'm happy to be a part of it. read full story / add a comment

Analysis by Mike Davis of the full meaning of Hurrican Katrina. A reasonably long article but well worth reading. Davis being the one commentator who predicted almost precisely the social impact of a hurricane striking New Orleans.

Today Spain and Morocco met at the highest level available to them to discuss as a matter of urgency, the events of the last month and week.

hundreds of migrants of sub-saharan origin attempt to cross the frontier between Morocco and the Spanish specifically in the tiny enclave of Melilla.

5 migrants have died (3 on the moroccan side 2 on the spanish side) in the last attempt which saw an estimated 500 migrants try to jump the Melilla wall on Wednesday of this week.

Doctors without frontiers claim 66% of the injuries sustained by the migrants resulted from their experiences on the Moroccan side.

The courts of spain have today passed sentance on a number of people who have stood accused of forming an Al Qaeda ring in europe and beyond with direct links to the terrorist event of September 11.

Amongst those who have been sentanced wa the "star reporter" with the Arabic-language satellite TV station Al Jazeera, Tayseer Allouni.

Allouni is famous for being the first journalist to see Al Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden after the 11 September attacks in the United States, interviewing him on 21 October 2001. read full story / add a comment

The Moore Street Lending Library is a unique public access space/facility/resource which will be managed by participating artists for three weeks from 27th September, with a dynamic and one-of-a-kind launch event on 30th September (see page 4 for further info). It is an event marking the social, economic and political life of the historic quarter of Dublin surrounding The Moore Street Market area.
Contributions and donations are welcome at The Moore Street Lending
Library from 27/9 unitl 15/10 2005.
