Last Saturday week, on account of its unethical selling of Israeli manufactured goods, mainly Keter garden plastic sheds, storage containers, etc, 9 Galway IPSC activists picketed the Atlantic Homecare DIY store on the east side of the city. Last Saturday, switching tactics, we did a gruelling 8 hour slog outside Lynch's castle in Shop street gathering signatures for our "Boycott Israeli Blood Diamonds" petition and urging people who stopped at our stall to also ... read full story / add a comment

Yesterday, Galway Food Not Bombs offered fresh organic vegetarian food to Galwegians again. But what's even more important, new ideas were realized and more activists recruited in the form of Gala, a FNB activist from New York city and Qanita, a Pakistani woman, living in Galway, who after contacting us, kindly showed up with her own home-cooked traditional Pakistani food and two young sons to dispense it. Qanita was pleased and excited with the idea of Food Not Bombs and promised to join us every Sunday. read full story / add a comment

Robert Tait reports on the latest crackdown on dissidents in Iran, in particular on students who oppose the regime. He also illustrates the warm welcome Ahmadinejad received from students who physically drove him out of a University. Mansouri, a student activist, was arrested due to the circulation of campus commentaries on Iran's Islamic system. Includeing the "incendiary "statement that neither Mohammad nor Imam Ali who is the most revered figure in the Shi'ite branch of Islam, were 'innocent'. It also argued that no figure in today's Iran should be considered 'sacred'. One publication said the highest number of prostitutes in Iran could be found in Qom, which is home to the country's religious establishment. In the cloying religious atmosphere of Iran's ruling theocracy, making such statements can be almost suicidal. Mansouri was one of eight students arrested. Five were released. He remains in custody along with Majid Tavakoli and Ahmad Ghasaban. read full story / add a comment
