There were 20-30 people protesting at the dáil today, which included members of the public and IPSC, as the Israeli ambassador arrived for a hearing before the Irish foreign affairs committee. There was a lot of media there also, but the ambassador slipped in through another entrance. No details were given to any media from the Israeli embassy about his time of arrival or what entrance he was going to use. All pics (c) Michael Gallagher read full story / add a comment ![]()

On January 11th. 2002 the U.S. opened its twilight zone and star chamber at it's military base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Guantanamo has come to symbolise the fast track acceptance of kidnapping torture as mainstream U.S. policy. Shannon Airport in Ireland has been used extensively for refueling of illegal kidnapping flights. Tens of thousands of others are detained and tortured in U.S. gulags in Iraq, Afghanistan, Diego Garcia, aboard ships and elsewhere known and unknown. read full story / add a comment ![]()

Shannonwatch.org, a website set up in December 2008 to document US military traffic and rendition flights through Shannon Airport has become the victim of organised international attacks. The attacks which started on January 8th are being repeated, and efforts to keep the website live are currently proving difficult. The website managers are determined that they will not be silenced however, and will continue in one form or another to publish information on military and suspect CIA flights through Shannon. read full story / add a comment ![]()

About 50-70 people attended the pro-Israel protest at Leinster House today. It was hard to see exactly how many were there because so many media people went over to interview them. Someone said they counted twenty different journalist at one stage. The majority of the people attending were quiet and subdued, with a bit of praying and singing (more like humming) going on, but three or four stood at the barrier and shouted abuse at the Palestinian counter demonstration. This was called at short notice, and outnumbered the Zionists by about three or four to one. read full story / add a comment

SATURDAY 17th JANUARY -- BOYCOTT ISRAEL DAY (DUBLIN) The slaughter in Gaza - with more than 850 women, men and children dead and many more injured - has shown up the brutal and racist nature of the state of Israel. Just like apartheid regimes in the past, Israel has instigated such terror and injustice that it must be isolated internationally. A mass campaign to boycott Israeli goods can make the point forcefully and allow everyone to participate. read full story / add a comment ![]()

100 - 175,000 march in Barcelona against Gaza massacre and call for Israeli boycott. Due to the ongoing massacres being carried out in the Gaza strip at present, 700+ Palestinians killed, mostly women and children, the protest in the streets of Barcelona was attended between 100 and 175 thousand people, thats about 2 full Croke Parks. Activists, at some stage, mounted a construction scaffolding and attached a banner in Catalan which was a slight modification to the famous poem "First they came…" about the Nazis coming for, removing and disappearing all those they then opposed: the communists, the jews, the trade unionists, the Catholics, the intellectuals, the last of which was the poems author, Martin Niemöller (1892–1984), was part of. Yesterdays banner included "Now they are coming for the Palestinians" read full story / add a comment

The National Chairperson of the 32 County Sovereignty Movement Francie Mackey has again highlighted and praised the efforts of all republican , socialist and progressive groups for their contribution to the temporary defeat of the EU Treaty in last Years referendum . However the apparent refusal of the national and intrnational capitalist elites to accept that popular decision and the increasing likelihood of their pushing ahead with a second referendum on the same Treaty in the upcoming year leaves all of us who opposed the Treaty on the grounds of national sovereignty , neutrality and principled socialist concerns with a common purpose . How best to defend Irish democracy and sovereignty from the undemocratic and arrogant mindsets of the powerful who regard such notions as an obstacle to their preferred political , economic and military order ? read full story / add a comment ![]()
