Any electrician knows that Lego bricks are genderless, not 'heteronormative', because each can 'mate' with any other. Perhaps Science Museum staff should study to be electricians and actually make themselves useful.

Any parent can currently withdraw their child from school if they're unhappy. Labour's Schools Bill ends that right for many, giving local authorities a veto. That's why all parents should protest this state power grab.

Friday’s demonstration is an opportunity for all Irish workers to show our support for and solidarity with Irish Ferries workers in their battle against job displacement and exploitation. Their fight is our fight because if the company is successful in defeating the workers’ resistance it will open the floodgates for employers throughout the economy to slash wages and attack working conditions – a process which is already well under way. read full story / add a comment

The Catholic Worker crew in OZ have set off to inspect a U.S. NSA/CIA base Pine Gap, near Alice Springs in the centre of the continent. They are covering the journey of thousands of miles in a van fueled by recycled Fish and Chip oil. Pine Gap plays a significant role in sattelite targetting for U.S. drive by cruise missile attacks and electronic spying. They are being joined by Donna Mulhearn, an Australian peace actvist who was held hostage in Fallujah and witnessed the U.S. destruction of that city.
The crew called into the trial of those arrested in June for blockading Operation Talisman sabre a joint OZ/U.S. military exercise held this past June. read full story / add a comment

There will be a Seomra Spraoi get-together this coming Saturday, 10 December, from 2pm at Nicholas of Myra hall. It's been called a conversation, a think-in and various other things (even a worthy alternative to Christmas shopping), but never a meeting.

I'm trying to get a video activist collective together in similar vien to Undercurrents or The Camcorder Guerillas. There is a room taken on the top floor of Seomra Spraoi in which a video editing workstation and cd/dvd duplicator will be going into in the near future.

Hopefully this will start to gather momentum in the New Year.

I was going out with a girl from near Dolphins barn when josie dwyer was killed . I used to pass him quite frequently , he was always on the grass outside the flats or hanging around the railings on the bridge . A pathetic sight he couldnt have weighed more than 7 or 8 stone .

Before he was killed if you walked through Fatima chances are youd be approached maybe a couple of times and asked if you were looking gear . And it only takes a minute to walk through it . One guy even employed the Moore street selling technique of yelling " come get yer luvverly gear" while riding round on a mountain bike . The drugs thing was just out of control . The bird I went with attended many anti drug vigils and marches and even favoured shooting the bigger dealers dead . Last I heard of her years ago she was addicted to smoking the stuff herself - just gave up . Beautiful girl too , an awful waste .

Im not surprised to be honest Josie Dwyer got thumped even though it was w read full story / add a comment

I have been told by very reliable sources that the buses will be stopping at noon, builders are downing tools at 9am, the CWU are telling their members to take part, and they'll be Marching from the CWU Head Office to join up with the main rally at Parnell Square, the CPSU, IMPACT and MANDATE are telling their members to take part, SIPTU are more or less instructing all their members to take part, and the schools will be closed. All we need now is for all the ESB to come out, and that will enforce a nationwide shutdown regardless of the scabs out there. I would appreciate any other reports of other workers walking off the job. read full story / add a comment

On tuesday the 6th December homeless activists will again attempt to hand in a petition to Bertie Ahern. At the same time the matter will be raised in the Dáil. Around 20,000 signatures have been gathered over the last couple of months calling on the government to hand over the proceed's of the sale of the old UCD veterinary site in Ballsbridge to Dublin City Council for the purposes of eradicating homelessness. Yesterday, 30th November, the property was sold for a record breaking €171 million. This amount has broken previous amounts paid per acre.

Street Seen will gather outside the Dáil from 4 o'clock on 6th December. Please come and join the protest. Bring music, banners, placards, and most importantly yourselves. read full story / add a comment

Irish Foreign Minister Dermot Ahern will seek assurances from Washington that US planes using Shannon airport have not been carrying CIA terror suspects when he meets with US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on Thursday.

Germany, Ireland and Switzerland have joined nearly a dozen European countries that are probing US spy agency flights for prisoners reportedly subjected to extra-judicial detention and possibly torture.

"The Minister will seek assurances from Condoleezza Rice that Shannon was not used for the rendition of prisoners or anything of that nature," a spokesman for Mr Ahern said on Sunday. read full story / add a comment

In an analysis published last week, former CIA analyst Ray McGovern presents the high level of agreement expressed by Iraqi factions at the previous weekend's reconciliation conference in Cairo, in acknowledging the legitimacy of resistance, denouncing terrorism and demanding a timetable for the withdrawal of foreign forces. But he remains pessimistic about prospects that the Cheney-Rumsfeld cabal will take the hint, or that Condoleezza Rice will take any independent initiative within the State Department to press for withdrawal.

Meanwhile, in news reports Wednesday, although Bush maintains the pretence that he will "settle for nothing less than complete victory" - a sure recipe for complete defeat - and insists that he will not be induced to announce a deadline for withdrawal, he has nevertheless declared an intention to "decrease our troop level in Iraq". read full story / add a comment
