The squatted building at 41 Parnell Square west was today evicted. First at around 2pm, a group of 4 men showed up, claiming to be the owners of the building. They had sledgehammers and crowbars and attacked the door of the squat. The police ended up supporting their attack and illegally evicting the people inside. read full story / add a comment

The Belfast office of the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Movement has claimed that an Irishman being questioned by Israeli police has been a victim of mistaken identity. The movement said the man being held is Seán Ó Morgáin, a peace activist who had no terrorist connections whatsoever. The Indymedia Ireland feature length documentary on the protests against the G8 in Genoa in July 2001 - Berlusconi's Mousetrap - (at very short notice) will be screened outdoors on a big fuck-off screen in Eyre Square as part of the Galway Film Fleadh on Thursday 10th July at 8pm. The "official" the end of the Iraq war was announced by George "I'll willing to let other people die for my country" Bush weeks back. Someone should tell the Iraqis. Almost every day, the US body count increases and Iraqi resentment and hatred of their "liberators" grows. On Thursday night, Scott Ritter the former UN weapons inspector for Iraq spoke to a packed room in the Menlo Park Hotel, Galway, at a meeting hosted by the Galway Alliance Against War. Scott was in Ireland to testify at Mary Kelly's trial, and spoke at length about her actions in disarming a US warplane at Shannon airport, and how he felt more people need to become active citizens, rather than just passive consumers, if we are to make into a reality the notion that both Ireland and America are democratic republics. read full story / add a comment
