Ba mhaith linn ómós a thabhairt do na 18, 437 daoine a chaith vóta do Shinn Féin in Iarthar Thír Eoghain ar an 7 Márta. Leis an sainordú iomráiteach seo agus trí bhainisteoireacht vótála diansmachta, rinne sibh deimhin de go dtoghadh an trúir iarthóir Shinn Fein sa dáilcheantar ar bharr an liosta. Bainfidh muid úsáid as an sainordú seo chun ár seirbhísí dáilcheantair a fhorbairt ar bhur son, chun a dheanamh cinnte go mbeidh an pholaitíocht ag obair, chun athrú bunúsach dearfach a dhéanamh ar chursaí sóisialta agus eacnamaíochta agus chun Éire Aontaithe a bhaint amach. read full story / add a comment ![]()

Since about 3 month half of all universities are occupied and on strike. This Thursday March 8 in Athens and Thessalonica, two great demonstrations took place at the time when the Parliament voted the new law -cadre, which opens universities to private companies. In Athens, 40.000 demonstrators were in the streets, 5000 in Thessalonica. The demonstration of Athens was regarded as the main event and gathered demonstrators from all of Greece. That of Thessalonica was more local and gathered students from the city itself and north of Greece. The protests become more and more militant, as repression by state escalates. read full story / add a comment ![]()

People may have missed this when it was publicised, since the protest coincided with (extensively reported) Shell to Sea protest in Mayo. The Wheelock family's plight has been highlighted on this site, so readers will be interested in the report on the forensic testing of Terence Wheelock's clothes. Since the Irish Times is subscription I reproduce the article here in full. read full story / add a comment ![]()

Not that it did much good of course. But better to try and fail, perhaps, than refuse to engage at all... read full story / add a comment |
