"The anti-war demonstration which takes place in Dublin today (March 20), marking the first anniversary of the illegal Anglo\US invasion of Iraq, provides the Irish people with a perfect opportunity to express their complete rejection of the 26 County Administration's support for the continued illegal Anglo\US occupation of Iraq, and in particular Brian Cowen's remarks on Thursday (March 18) pledging the continued use of Shannon by US warplanes. Such remarks only serve to highlight the arrogance of an administration which has chosen to ignore the vast majority of the Irish people, who have clearly expressed their opposition to the Anglo\US invasion and occupation of Iraq, made clear by the presence of 200.000 people on the streets of Dublin in February of last year." read full story / add a comment

The October Fifth Association, a global network of 1968 civil rights' veterans and supporters, since the death of Capt. James J. Kelly, although acquitted in the Arms Trials of the early 1970s, is campaigning to clear his name of any wrong-doing. Co-accused, a former Stormont MLA, who quit Sinn Féin, John Kelly (no relation) and the Captain's widow Sheila, recently contacted the media to express their support. The civil rights' vets will launch an International petition on St. Patrick's Day via a CKJCampaign website, which can be located on www.captainkelly.org OR www.captkelly.org The captain's widow, family members and friends have already viewed the website and signed the the international petition, which is accompanied by other features such as a 'Photo Gallery', and campaign press reports. A press conference is scheduled to be held in a Derry hotel in the next 2-4 weeks. Further details from the CR Vets, via [email protected] read full story / add a comment

Below is a press release sent to 10 local media outlets, covering Donegal's 130,000+ population. The Tara issue, the Corrib gas field and many other assaults on Irish life continue to be ignored by the national media. Local media is usually quite stale but very open to alternative news, so long as it has a local slant. Politicians are great users of local media but activists are often to busy lambasting Fox news to notice. You can localise easily by (a) keeping it simple (b) making it easy on the journo (email it etc) and vitally (c) puttting a local slant on it.... / this applies of all issues - war, environment etc. And remember, local elections around the corner - they don't like their names in the paper! read full story / add a comment

Bank of Ireland have achieved their target to recycle 80% of all waste generated in their Head Office in Baggot Street. They began recycling waste in June 2003 and for the past 8 months they have recycled :- * 62 tonnes of cardboard - the equivalent of 992 trees. * 83.33 tonnes of paper. * Saved 1,720 cubic metres of landfill. They now plan to improve waste segregation at source to improve things further and cut the costs of recycling. There are NO under-desk rubbish bins in any of the three buildings; staff have no choice but to recycle all waste. Here's hoping other organisations follow suit. read full story / add a comment |
