We are Na Cosantoiri Siochana, the Peace Network, defenders of the peace... a group of unaffiliated peace activists using peaceful demonstration and protest. We're here at Shannon Warport today to highlight the disgusting transit of torture victims through this public civilian airport by the C.I.A. and it's continued use by the U.S. war machine, in contravention of the Irish Constition, national and international law. read full story / add a comment

Following press and radio reports that the UN Commission on Human Rights wants to add Ireland to the long list of countries it wants to question about aiding and abetting CIA 'rendition' (i.e. torturing them into signing confessions) flights, peace activists in the Mid-west, who have been monitoring Shannon, call on the government to stop looking the other way. read full story / add a comment
armagh / consumer issues / press release Tuesday September 13, 2005 11:02 by Roger Clifford
In an attempt to keep the momentum going on this campaign, Craigavon Trades Council held another public meeting in Lurgan last night (12th Sept) Difficulties in advertising the event contributed to another disappointing turn out. However using the maxim of quality over quantity the meeting was a possitive one. The launch of the water charge petition in the area has been a great success. So much so the Trades Council has been encouraged to organise further signing days in the major towns in the forthcoming weeks. It is vitally important that the postponement of the charges for a year does not bring about a false sense of security on this matter. There is still a massive job to be done, needing the focused attention of all the groups opposing this unfair double tax. There is another meeting in Portadown Town Hall wednesday 14th September at 7.30. Other meetings and events will be advertised in due course. read full story / add a comment

A potentially landmark Human Rights case resulting from a year-long dispute between Belfast City Council and the free cultural newspaper The Vacuum is due to take place on Tuesday 13th September 2005. This is the first courtcase against a municipal government on violation of the human rights legislation put in place from the peace process - and its not happening along traditional sectarian lines. Just the opposite- nonsectarians stood up for themselves and political parties across sectarian lines in the Belfast City Council voted to censor them. Now the whole snarl is going to court as free expression and human rights in the North square off against bipartisan bigotry . read full story / add a comment
