Its two years after the G8 agreed to ‘Make Poverty History’ and yet 1 billion people are still without access to clean water, according to a recent report by the United Nations World Institute for Development. Both Bob Geldof and Bono have both described the situation as “a farce” with Bono even saying “I feel like a fool that I ever believed them”.

World poverty and inequality will be a key theme at an upcoming debate between Socialist Youth and the Young PDs, taking place on Saturday the a 21st of July and Galway on the 28th. read full story / add a comment

Blackletter are organising a skills exchange project called '10x10x10', to take place in Autumn 2007

We are looking for proposals from artists or other interested parties who have an interesting or useful skill to share. 10 people will be selected to deliver 10 workshops over 10 weeks. Participants will receive a fee at the equivalent to a part-time lecturing rate for their workshop and preparation time. There is also a small budget available for equipment and materials depending on the nature of the proposal. read full story / add a comment

The republican youth movement Ógra Shinn Féin have launched a new national website. The website is in addition to the growing number of platforms that Ógra have opened up in the past year, including their blogspot, local websites, Glor na nÓg and Spark.

As well as keeping activists and supporters updated of daily republican youth news and views, the website will be used to recruit new members, and inform people of upcoming events.
