Police arrested Slovak national, Stefan Gonda, on Tuesday after he had unwittingly brought plastic explosives into Ireland three days earlier on a plane. He was later released without charge . The pilot of the Danube Wings plane had been informed before take off from Poprad-Tatry airport in eastern Slovakia that the explosive material was on board , but decided to carry on with the plane’s scheduled flight .
Slovak chief of border police Tibor Mako said the explosives had been attached to the straps of the man's backpack “to test security at Slovakia’s Poprad-Tatry Airport.” ... read full story / add a comment

Report by Grainne V: On December 31st 2009, 18 people gathered together on Scarriff Bridge to remember the over 1,400 Palestinians in Gaza who were killed by the Israeli Army last year and to stand in solidarity with the survivors of that attack, cynically named 'Operation Cast Lead'. We were one of many groups nationwide who met on bridges around the country at the same time as 1,400 internationals attempted to cross into Gaza through the Rafah crossing from Egypt bringing much-needed aid and solidarity. ... read full story / add a comment

At Dawn today, some 35 to 40 Israeli Occupation Forces in 6 jeeps and a troop carrier raided the home of Rani Ayub in the West Bank village of Bil'in: there were no arrests as Rani was arrested four weeks ago in his home and has been held, incommunicado, since then in the notorious Mascobia (Russian Compound) police/interrogation center in West Jerusalem with no family visits, access to lawyers or even a charge. Iyad Burnat, head of Bil'in's Popular Committee say's the occupation soldiers were on a trawling exercise, seeking documentation and Rani Ayub's mobile phone. ... read full story / add a comment

They blocked the two entrances to the Sinai port with vehicles and clashed with police who used water cannon to control the protests.
