I'm not joking. A obscure law called the No Electronic Theft (NET) Act that former U.S. President Bill Clinton signed in 1997 makes peer-to-peer (P2P) pirates liable for $250,000 in fines and subject to prison terms of up to three years. With war looming, just to put things in perspective, check out this site. http://www.sunshine-project.org/ Details of serious allegations as regards US-backed biological weapons plans for Columbia, US covert chemical weapons activities, US special forces actively canvassing the science community for Genetically Engineered bioweapons, and the legal status or otherwise of all of the above. I have to say that this makes pretty scary reading, and that it puts the 'does he or doesn't he have weapons of mass destruction' argument into context. ... read full story / add a comment

Annually a high ranking-conference of war mongers takes place in Munich in February. In camouflage as “security conference” representatives of the military, economic and political elite vote for their hegemony strategies. But like already last year this summit in Munich will be accompanied by actions of protest and resistance. Since a few months it was mobilized against the world war-elite internationally with the slogan "Smash NATO". ... read full story / add a comment

Galway City Council last night unanimously passed an anti-war resolution, which was proposed by Alderman Catherine Connolly of Labour. The resolution was raised ‘in solidarity’ with Galway’s twin cities, Seattle and Chicage, both of whose councils have adopted anti-war positions. Alderman Connolly urged her colleagues to show leadership on the issue, “especially when Shannon is in the next county to us”.
