Civilian passenger numbers are still falling at Shannon airport which is now downgraded to Ireland's third airport after Dublin and Cork. Yet, there were four US troop carrying aircraft at Shannon at 9.30 am today Sept 15, and probably several more during this 24 hour period. These four planes carry at least a total of 1,000 armed troops and perhaps up to 1,200. Tuesday 13th September six people from the Rossport Solidarity Camp went down to Shell's tunnelling compound in Aughoose, Co. Mayo to disrupt work. RTE’s website carried a story yesterday about cancellations in Dublin’s transport building program . The article said that it was now “ [by] no means certain that any of the major transport projects for Dublin will be built in the next five years “. The report’s first paragraph reads: “Transport Minister Leo Varadkar said the country is in receivership and it is by no means certain that any of the major transport projects for Dublin will be built in the next five years.” The accompanying RTE News report does not include a full quote or a reference to where and when the government minister said that Ireland was “in receivership”. ... read full story / add a comment

On Wednesday 31st August at 8am 15 people entered Barrett’s quarry, just outside Bangor Erris in Co. Mayo and stopped work for the whole day, leaving at 5:30pm. Today 25 people from Rossport Solidarity Camp sustained a barrage of actions against the site Shell is preparing for its tunnel boring machine. Despite 80 security and three vans of gardaí they were unable to keeps the protesters out. In the chaos that ensued one person got through the lines to d-lock themselves to one of the diggers and remained up there stopping work for 4 hours.
