The Nice treaty is a difficult document to read and understand in part because it is a list of amendments to already existing documents including the European Union treaty itself. In order to try to understand these you end up flicking back and forth between growing mountains of paper. This is probably part of the reason why many activists remain unaware of its central place in pushing capitalist globalisation in Europe and its periphery. ... read full story / add a comment

The last hurrah of the Arthouse closure took place over the weekend with the auction of the buildings contents. I didn't attend but by all accounts it was pretty crazy. Among the contents were the servers which hosted the website which contained the results of years worht of artists' residencies and Arthouse assisted projects. We wouldn't throw paintings in a skip so why is deleting digital art OK? Call me a pessimist but I saw this coming and took the precaution of downloading the site to save this work and to keep this important record of digital art practise in Ireland available as a resource for all. I see this as a temporary measure until a more permanent solution can be found, it was a rush job so please forgive any glitches. ... read full story / add a comment

This was a declaration posted to the papers of the world in 1992. Most papers ignored it then and still do. Most Governments have ignored it. The IRISH government have certainly ignored it. Let's fight against Nice, for women's equality, for an end to war, racism and corruption and let's not forget that the earth is being MURDERED (not killed but murdered) as we talk, meet and make plans. Corporations and governments are surely complicit and largely to blame. But so are we. We are 'the west', we are the rampant consumers. How many of us eat meat, recycle, cut down on oil and gas, use less paper - all basic but difficult stuff - but all very relevant. EARTH GET SICK - WE GET SICK. EARTH DIES, WE DIE. ... read full story / add a comment

There are 1.2 billion Muslims in the world, and Islam is the world's fastest-growing religion. If the evil carnage we witnessed on Sept. 11 were typical of the faith, and Islam truly inspired and justified such violence, its growth and the increasing presence of Muslims in both Europe and the U.S. would be a terrifying prospect. Fortunately, this is not the case. ... read full story / add a comment
