By the time I lived in community with Phil Berrigan, he was a wise old man. He had served many years in U.S. prisons for his nonviolent resistance to the Vietnam War and nuclear weapons - initiating the draft board raids and plowshares movements. After I moved on, he would serve many more years. He was in the very best sense disillusioned with popular American pretensions. He suffered from few illusions. ... read full story / add a comment

Labour TD Robert Dowds is putting down a Dail question to the Justice Minister Alan Satter based on Alan Shatter's letter to WIlliam Irwin MLA - see graphic. The question will ask: "What consideration is being given to issues relating to the former Bethany Home and the appropriateness and practicality of such issues being addressed in a satisfactory manner and would the Minister make a statement on the subject." This is the second time that a member of the Northern Assembly has expressed concern about the government's neglect of this group of survivors. Minister Arlene Foster wrote to Martin McAleese asking him to include Bethany Home in in his investigation of Magdalen laundries. The government refused to allow this - see letters. ... read full story / add a comment

Thanks to Defence Counsel’s methodical probing, the reason for Evans’ nervousness rapidly became apparent. She is the officer from Grampian force who conducted the most recent interview of Hollie, on 8th September 2009 in Shrewsbury, and she also headed up the raiding party on Robert’s home on 13th February 2010. It is certain that she was directed to obtain a particular item with the potential to cause big problems for Grampian police. This item was not among the productions placed before the court yet the policewoman knew there were bound to be questions about it from the Defence, which only she could answer. ... read full story / add a comment

Kevin Tracey has legitimately complained for years about the atrocious abuse he has been so wrongly subjected to by the gardai only since he obtained a full legal planning permission to build a new house next door to a Judge, which was taken away from him through the courts. He has ample evidence that this same Judge instigated malicious charges against him through his friends in the gardai, principally at Ballyfermot. In fact Kevin has proved in the District Court that these 31 charges were maliciously concocted by the gardai, dpp and the courts service. ... read full story / add a comment

IRMS security hired by shell, occupying the State owned site yet again, demonstrated their lack of concern for health and safety. Outside police pushed protesters off the road, while one halted lorry driver expressed his intentions to police that he would clear the road by driving into protestors. Later spirits were high as police did not even attempt to clear the road when over 15 protesters lay down to block a lorry, which had to be diverted. Later the police returned and used brute force to push people off the road. They hospitalized one protestor. ... read full story / add a comment

RNU have expressed dismay and concern at the sick antics of the Maghaberry administration who have again used the plight of seriously ill POW Tony Taylor to confuse and cause maximum distress to his wife and family. Yesterday afternoon, Tony (who suffers from injuries he sustained in an explosion in the early 90s), was taken from Maghaberry Gaol to an outside hospital after a severe infection caused his right arm to swell at an alarming rate. Tony who is on full dirty protest in Roe House, lost his spleen in the explosion and had his body peppered with shrapnel which is still present, this makes him vulnerable to infection as his immune system is particularly compromised. Infections if left untreated can lead to blood poisoning and in Tony’s case can prove fatal. ... read full story / add a comment
