Anti -Irish Trimble is to step into the controversy surrounding the proposed plans for a mosque in Portadown. He fears Sinn Fein are exploiting the issue and that Unionist attitudes could cause them bad publicity. The fact is Unionists are more inclined towards racism than nationalists and cannot envision a N.Ireland that isn't white, protestant and Unionist. N.Ireland has always been an anti-catholic and anti-Irish state.Muslims are now the next victims of their intolerance and bigotry. ... read full story / add a comment

The night before the Saturday protest at Shannon Airport, I got an opportunity to take myself and my video camera along for the ride with Tim Hourigan, Ed Horgan and John Gormley and a 5/7 live journalist. They were going into Shannon airport for a close look at a US Military Hercules which they had observed landing at about 11pm. Ed more or less drove straight past the checkpoint on the way in. We met Ryanair passengers who were coming off a flight from the UK as we approached the entrance to the terminal. Tim asked a couple if they knew the US Military were using the airport and if they knew that their plane had been parked next to a US Military Plane. They looked at us as if we were nuts and asked if we were taking the piss. We told them we weren't . Then they looked freaked. ... read full story / add a comment

Over the last few months there have been several small demonstrations in Ireland against the latest capitalist war to be unleashed on the world. These demonstrations have mostly been localised to Dublin, with calls for a national demonstration going out nearly once a month. The major focus point for objection to this war in Ireland should be Shannon but certain groups and organisations have taken more of an interest in building the Anti-War Movement in Ireland by organising needless walkabouts around Dublin city centre. While these demonstrations may be in the city that the houses of power and corruption are in they are ultimately pointless. ... read full story / add a comment
