European gas prices recently went above ?58 per megawatt hour ? the equivalent of $100 per barrel of oil. This is "absolutely destructive for energy-intensive manufacturing", in the words of one industry analyst.

offsite link Why All Parents Should Protest Against the Children?s Wellbeing and Schools Bill Tue Feb 11, 2025 18:14 | Elizabeth Dulley
Any parent can currently withdraw their child from school if they're unhappy. Labour's Schools Bill ends that right for many, giving local authorities a veto. That's why all parents should protest against this state power grab.

Capitalism, patriarchy, racism, and corporate globalization are vile enough, but every so often -- and of course the mid century Nazis were a prime example -- something even worse tries to emerge out of still deeper layers of hell, and occasionally it does. And such a scourge of evil seems perhaps to be seeking entry into our world now, all the way from the seventh circle, or further. ... read full story / add a comment

A Private Members Motion to withdraw our concent for the US-led assault against the people of Iraq was defeated at the start of this month. MONTREAL - War in Iraq would have devastating effects on the country's 13 million children, many of whom are already malnourished and living in ''great fear'' of another conflict, says the report of a Canadian-led, fact-finding team released Thursday. The document, based on a trip to Iraq Jan. 20-26 by 10 health experts, concludes that, ''Iraqi children are at grave risk of starvation, disease, death and psychological trauma''. They ''are more vulnerable to the adverse effects of a new war than they were before the Gulf War of 1991'' but ''the international community has at present little capacity to respond to the harm that children will suffer by a new war in Iraq'', it adds. ... read full story / add a comment

The Global Women's Strike is entirely with the five activists from Catholic Worker who took action for all of us in further decommissioning a US naval plane, which illegally stopped to refuel at the civilian airport at Shannon. On behalf of women in Ireland and the communities who depend on our care, we demand the release of the two activists still remanded in prison. Warplanes are a key technology in a long-standing, violent, murderous war against women and children. ... read full story / add a comment
