'Eco-anxiety' affects 78% of children under 12, a crisis that teachers say they are unable to cope with, new polling by Greenpeace has found. The solution? More ruthless exposure of children to alarmist material.

Haven't the flights been rerouted to Frankfurt?

author by kitty-katpublication date Mon Feb 10, 2003 13:16author address author phone Report this post to the editors

World Airways, just one of the airlines engaged in U.S. military transport, has re-routed the next 17 flights through Frankfurt. World Airways are responsible for 35 – 40% of troop throughput passing through Shannon. But they are not the only ones and they have yet, as far as I’m aware, to determine whether or not they will resume the use of Shannon. The decision was taken before the actions of Mary Kelly and CW5 so that may encourage them to stay away, Bertie’s deployment of the toughies in green may charm them back…

17 world air ways ones have been diverted to Frankfurt
- but they have no comment on what happens after that -
NONE of the other Charter companys have pulled out and the US military, navy and air force continue to run their own flights

so its a start but they might need a bit more encouragement

I endorse fully the call for a march on Shannon March 1st. I would ask that it takes the form of a demo in the traditional style but also attempts to get inside, either through the fencing or the terminal building itself. Can the Garda and their green chums arrest 6 or 700 people?

author by Paulpublication date Mon Feb 10, 2003 13:58author address author phone Report this post to the editors

During one war (possibly Vietnam) there was a huge demo and armed soldiers held off a crowd. Hundreds of women armed only with daisies and other flowers marched up to the soldiers and stuck the stems of the flowers into the muzzle of the soldier's rifles. Would be an interesting sight at Shannon!

The article in the related link mentions a number of direct actions by soldiers during
previous wars, which readers might find useful and interesting. What it demonstrated most
clearly is that exceedingly simple actions like nuts and bolts accidently falling down
into ship engine parts can seriously damage it and put a ship out of action for months.
I would imagine the same would happen with aircraft engines. Modern technology seems
to have an Achilles heel in that it can be very sensitive to even minor disruption.

The actions and events described were certainly new to me and I expect may well be for many
others too.

The page http://www.infoshop.org/military.html also has links to other stuff too.

You will need a lot of persuasion to get the swp to venture back to Shannon again, some of them are still running away
