School students against war {SSAW} in Belfast after speaking on behalf of youth in the North at the Belfast Feb 15th Demo have held a debate today. Barbara Muldoon SWP and Anti War Movement debated Bob McCartney of the UK unionist party. Over 300 schoolstudents attended the debate. Although only recently formed SSAW have went from strength to strength with already a brief TV slot on prime time news and on radio and today in a paper I picked up gave them almost a half page picture of their big contingent on the demo lead by their banner. Mondays Irish Independent quotes unnamed 'government sources' on its front page who say even if Bush goes to war without a UN mandate the government will continue to allow refuelling to take place at Shannon. If, as it appears likely, the government refuses to stop refuelling then direct action is the only road left to those who oppose the war. At least 21 people are confirmed dead, Chicago Police spokesman Pat Camden said Monday. There were more than 1,500 people in the two-story Epitome Night Club on south Michigan Avenue when someone sprayed pepper spray or mace into the air some time after 2 a.m., Fire Commander Will Knight said. This is the fault of The Regime's Orange Alert which has established a panicky reaction among the public to the release of any foreign substance. http://www.suntimes.com/output/news/club14.html ... read full story / add a comment
