The Blob has sunk to new depths in its quest to destroy educational freedom. No wonder, says Randall Hardy. It's only the right to withdraw children from the state system that restrains its worst indoctrinating tendencies.

There has been discussion on whether St Patrick day should be used for anti-war demonstrations or left as a purely celebratary day. But with most in Ireland against the war its ironic to see the Dublin City Council put up white flags for peace along the river Liffy in Dublin the centre of celebrations (in photos below) while the government continues to support the US war http://www.redbrick.dcu.ie/~chewy/paddy/ ... read full story / add a comment

So what is a traitor doing in the White House as the Bush Junta prepares for war? Only a regime as corrupt as the Bush junta that voided the results of an election and has placed almost every indicted and convicted felon from the Reagan-Bush era into positions of power would have the audacity to parade a traitor in front of the news cameras as a patriot. ... read full story / add a comment

national / miscellaneous Friday March 14, 2003 - 20:28 by Liverpool Irish Fireman
John Prescott told a Hull firefighter he'd reject the latest offer to the union if he was still a union shop steward. The admission came during Wednesday's lobby of Parliament. During a meeting lasting an hour and 20 minutes Ian Murray, a Hull firefighter said he repeatedly asked Mr Prescott if he would recommend the deal if he was still a union shop steward. "I kept pushing him to answer and eventually he said: 'Of course I wouldn't have.' I said to him: 'So why do you expect us to recommend it?' "He said the biggest mistake was asking for such a 40% pay rise from the outset. He said no workers would get that without giving up anything in return." Mr Murray pointed out that one group of workers had: Cabinet Ministers, including John Prescott. ... read full story / add a comment

The so-called Anti-War Movements of all the countries dithering over /when/ to escalate the murder of Iraqis are a shambolic coalition of hypocrites and do-gooders. Until we sort out clearly that 2nd UN Resolution or not, Iraq should not be invaded, sanctions should cease and Turkey should be prevented from oppressing Kurds further, we are doomed to failure. ... read full story / add a comment

The surreal experience that is Ennis district courtroom continued apace last Friday 7th March with 3 separate cases of resistance to US military use of Shannon Warport being heard. Set in a 1970’s GAA clubhouse/drinking den, the court surroundings brought a whole new meaning to ‘being brought to the bar’ as most of us sat propped against it, reading papers. ... read full story / add a comment

A US Air Force marching band has pulled out of two events in Limerick this weekend. The US Air Force In Europe Band was due to take part in the International Festival Parade on Sunday and the St Patrick’s Day Parade. It is understood they are withdrawing due to security concerns. This is a digest of stories from the wire from the week just gone by. IMC IRL is becoming a victim of it's own success in that articles rarely stay on the newswire for longer that 24 hours. So I'll endeavour to give a digest of the most commented on - still relevant articles from each week from now on. If you think I have left important stuff out please add links in comments under this. Concentrated on the upcoming war and Irish Responses cos let's face it - it's hard to think about anything else. I personally wish a coherent broad based protest had been planned for march 15th like elsewhere in the world - waiting with the IAWM for Day x is fatalistic and depressing. Maybe Paddy's day will see some kind of populist opposition to War and to Bertie's support for same. ... read full story / add a comment

Several anti war goups have now been established in W/Belfast. The Falls Rd, Andersonstown Rd and Lenadoon, Twinbrook/Poleglass. There are also individuals who are going to do their own estates and other areas including the Shankill Rd. Thousands of posters and leaflets are being provided by local trade union branches as well as local community and political organisations within West Belfast and that support is very welcome. Anyone looking to get involved in activity in a local group or individually in their areas to leaflet, poster etc for the feeder march and other planned actions contact me at my E-mail and I can put you in touch with local groups. ... read full story / add a comment
