On 24 May 2017, two peace activists Dave Donnellan and Colm Roddy were sent for jury trial because the District Court judge finally refused to accept jurisdiction. This year’s conservation focus is on preventing plastic pollution and marine litter, encouraging solutions for healthier seas. And rightly so. A widely cited study by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation for the World Economic Forum warns that by 2050, there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish. A separate report in the journal Science estimates that 8 million tonnes of plastic enter the oceans each year – the equivalent of one truckload per minute. LAW began as Central America Week in 1986 in order to increase the impact of many separate campaigns and events being organised by a variety of groups.
