The cops, feds, guards or whatever you like to call them are using the satirical magazine the Slate as proof that violent confrontation was pre-meditated and organised for May the sixth. Representatives from their representative association have been all over the media spouting this limp line. They have encountered no direct opposition on this specific. They don't get it (surprise). And even if they do they won't because they don't want to and they're floundering, grasping for an escape hatch. ... read full story / add a comment

For the second time in a very short period, the Israeli police have begun an investigation against the Indymedia Israel organization. The first investigation was instigated by the Israeli Ministry of Communication. The present investigation is in reference to an article which had been deleted from the website newswire. The complaints being made to the police must be seen as part of a wider campaign being carried out by certain right-wing interests, against both the democratic right to free speech and the right to privacy, with the broader intent to quash any form critical dialogue. ... read full story / add a comment

By comparing Sinn Fein to Le Pen, Ruairi Quinn conflates the anti-imperialism of the republican movement with the ultra-nationalism of European imperialism. He shows his ignorance of Irish history and the deep, organic connection to that history of Irish republicanism, especially its struggle on behalf of those dispossessed by the genocidal depradations of English imperialism. To-day the Travelling people in Kerry have publicly supported Martin Ferris. The racist Immigration Platform has singled out Sinn Fein for criticism because of Sinn Fein's support for refugees and immigrants. Fat-cat Quinn purports to lead a 'Labour' Party, but his ignorant remarks show that the republican movement is the true repository of the radical, republican, socialist anti-imperialism of James Connolly, whilst Quinn and his party are on the side of the propertied, possessing, priveleged class,- to which Quinn himself belongs. ... read full story / add a comment

Climate Change is happening and will get worse. Peat is the worst offender(worse than oil or coal)though on a global scale doesn't matter. Ireland has a commitment under Kyoto to cap its increace its Greenhouse Gas Emmissions at 13% above 1990 levels by 2010. At current rate of growth they will increace emmissions by 40%. The Celtic Tiger has no small role to play in this. The govt. could do a lot about this and has great plans such as carbon taxes which will a long time to fruition(you thought the plastic bags took a long time:-)). Today though they may as well have thrown those plans in the bin. Lip service how are ye? Then theres destruction to peatland, and a a whole gamut of knock on effects. After the media coverage of the heckling at Liberty hall on Mayday, and the subsequent debate about who runs GR, some of us felt it was necessary to clarify our position as a group. It was decided at our last meeting that this letter should be send to Des Geraghty. This in no way negates the right of any individual to hold their own opinions and voice them as they see fit.
