A make shift camp was created at Free Derry Corner earlier today in Derry's Bogside as a gesture of international solidarity with the continued Israeli Policy of wide spread house evictions.

Activists also held a street collection in an effort to raise money for Derry - Gaza Medical Aid Convoy currently being organised by the Derry Anti War Coalition who will be taking part in an international convoy to Palestine this coming October.

Several hundred information leaflets were also distributed to passers by on today's world wide event of which Derry played an important role. ... read full story / add a comment

Founded in 1977, the Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan (RAWA) is the oldest political organization active in Afghanistan. Its' priority is the establishment of a democratic and secular regime, based on the self-determination of the Afghan people and the recognition of the rights of women [1]. RAWA conducts clandestine educational operations. The activists are constantly at risk and thus act under cover of humanitarian action. However, RAWA is 'not a humanitarian organization', and its social activism is driven by political goals.

As part of a lecture tour in February, Alternative Libertaire had the opportunity to speak with one of its activists, Zoya. ... read full story / add a comment

Irish Friends of Palestine Against Lisbon (IFPAL) is an organisation founded in June 2009 to call for a No vote in the imminent second referendum on the Lisbon Treaty, on the grounds that the European Union's Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) is inimical to the interests of the Palestinian people and detrimental to Ireland's relationship with the Arab and Islamic world.

"No, it's not parody. Rather, it's instructive of the state of mind of the coup defenders. (You can see it in repeated online comments on Twitter and elsewhere attacking Organization of American States chairman Jose Miguel Insulza because he was part of the elected Allende government before Allende was assassinated by Pinochet's forces.) They see the Pinochet coup of 36 years ago as a heroic act, and long for the bad old days when they could simply stamp out democratic will by rounding all dissenters into a stadium and assassinating more than 3,000 in a single week, which is what happened after September 11, 1973 in Santiago de Chile.
It is another proof positive that they are trying to start that ball rolling all over again throughout the hemisphere. And it demonstrates exactly why not a single government in América or in the entire world recognizes their illegitimate regime." ... read full story / add a comment

Today, Thursday 9th July, about 50 members and supporters of the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) held a loud and lively two hour demonstration outside the Israeli Embassy in Ballsbridge. Protesters chanted pro-Palestinian slogans and formed a ‘human wall’ at the gates of the embassy to symbolise the Apartheid Wall under construction by the Israeli government in the West Bank since 2002. Gardai informed the organisers that the embassy staff had all been given a half day due to the planned demonstration outside, meaning that the IPSC successfully closed down the embassy for half a day.

Colonel Luis Arce Gómez was the right hand man of Luis García Meza who headed up the bloody coup d'etat in Bolivia on the 17th of July 1981. His extradition to serve a prison sentence for abuses of human rights and international drug trafficking has long been sought and expected as the least sign that one really can squeeze blood from stones without resorting to magical alchemy or that elusive Nobel prize category of finest plasterers or Quantum brickies.

As of writing this man born in 1938 can only enjoy only sparse internet biographical referential coverage in either Spanish language or English. Though I'm sure we can correct that soon enough. We need to explain so much about the chap who as usurping minister of the interior counted on such luminaries and advisors as the convicted NAZI and ex-SS officer, Klaus Barbie as well as the Italian fascist terrorist, assassin of trade unionists & champion of arch-catholic values Stefano Delle.

Activists from Derry and Donegal have called for people to join in the creation of a “Tent City” at Free Derry Corner, this Monday, 13 July. The family-friendly action is to be in solidarity with Palestinian families whose homes are currently being demolished by the Israeli State. In recent weeks, EI member organisation Egitim-Sen and the Confederation of Public Employees’ Unions (KESK) .. have suffered a series of attacks by the Turkish authorities, including the occupation and searches of the trade union premises by the security forces, arrest and preventive detention of trade union leaders and the use of excessive violence by the police against teachers demonstrating peacefully (...) On 29 May 2009, EI, together with the ITUC, wrote to the Turkish Government to protest against these anti-union attacks. Egitim-Sen and KESK received support from many trade union organisations around the world. However the authorities disregarded the international appeals to stop the attacks. Join EI in our appeal to stop the attacks on trade unions! There are currently still 22 Egitim-Sen and KESK officials in detention, including the women secretaries of both organisations. I was never so glad as the day I quit drinking. Almost 20 years now. Alcohol is poison and destructive to the body. Worse, it lines the pockets of the rack renters. Come on Ireland. Awaken. The world fears that. Believe it. Marijuana is one of the most powerful expectorants known. It is a pain reliever, a euphoric, an appetite enhancer, and enhancer of certain other states of thinking and cognition familiar to its users, and very useful. Let us have some real Irish Green. ... read full story / add a comment
