IRSM Hunger Strike CommemorationIn August every year we gather here at this monument to honour the 1981 hunger strikers. This year marks the 21st anniversary of that period in which we lost ten of the bravest men Ireland has ever seen. We, in the Republican Socialist Movement, are here today not just to remember them but to re-dedicate ourselves to the political ideals that our comrades fought and died for. ... read full story / add a comment

Hello friends, Just wanted to notify ye as to the recent launch of www.forumireland.com At present the Nice Treaty is the subject of our case study. Fianna Fáil and the Green Party have submitted exclusive articles to represent each side of the vote. Will we ratify or reject Nice? Is it even constitutional to re run the same treaty that we already rejected? Luke 'Ming' Flanagan, the well known cannabis legalisation campaigner, has also sublitted an article for our feature of the month. Luke writes on Waste Management in Ireland and the alternatives he sees to incineration of waste? Friends of the Earth Ireland have also submitted an article entitled "Dont let big business run the World" You may also raise and debate any topic you think is not receiving enough attention in the nations media - Forum Ireland will only be as strong as the articles and debate it encourages. ... read full story / add a comment

Ed Moloney, today on Wbai, NYC, denounced a smear by Niall O'Dowd, in the Smurfit-subsidized Irish Voice. O'Dowd claims that in a forthcoming book, Moloney asserts that Gerry Adams cooperated with the British to botch IRA operations and thus pave the way for the peace process. Moloney said that O'Dowd does not have the courage to publish the allegation in Ireland because he knows its libellous. Moloney also said that Sinn Fein's Rita O'Hare, in Nyc, denounces Moloney as an unreconstructed Provo, while in Belfast, Sinn Fein claims that Moloney is a stooge of MI5. O'Dowd, served as liaison between Adams and the U.S. Commander in Chief, Clinton, in the days leading up to the Ira's ceasefire. ... read full story / add a comment

“This is the second time a Chinese man has been killed in Dublin. I have friends who are abused in the street, many of them have been physically attacked and if they go to the Gardai there is no response or they are very slow. Other friends have had their windows broken by teenagers and been attacked. Many of the Chinese suffer this, and I think the Government are responsible for this, and especially the Garda authorities.” “Racism is getting worse. hi, I know you guys work really hard and I realise this is a user run forum, which I try to contribute towards from my home in the UK, but the frontpage is always up for weeks and weeks on end. There are lots of new and more interesting stories which appear on the newswire but nobody ever updates it. I know you're gonna jump on me and say 'why don't you do it'?. I live in teh Uk and cannot but I don't honestly think it takes more than 15 mins to update the frontpage. This will make teh site look fresher and more happening. Perhaps your volunteers can rotate this job on a weekly basis or something? But keep up the great work otherwise!!! ... read full story / add a comment
