A photographer working for a Trinity FM web project captured the following shot of a Garda clearly removing the ID number from his shoulder. As a regular party-goer, I couldn't wait to reclaim the streets, though I was surprised that there was no real political agenda behind it - at least that was the opinion of the average, run-of-the-mill person who turned up. I enjoyed the dancing, and the different types of music, and the costumes and colour. And when the time came to move along, I went with the crowd - after all, it was just a good laugh, and the Gardai seemed pretty mellow about it all. Here I document the unexpected and unjustified police brutality suffered by the partygoers at the hands of Ireland's police force. ... read full story / add a comment ![]()

Great craic had by all who attended. Sun poked its head out onto the crowd of 200-ish, who were chilling out in the park listening to Bongo. Then acompanied by guitars, saxaphone, and a wicked drummer who nearly had a heart atack on stage from playing so fast! Garda presence was small and un-offensive. They acted fair and the day went off smoothly. "It isn't a riot without riot police" so the crowed were mellow. Nothing to do with the day that was in it- international cannabis liberation day ;-) ... read full story / add a comment

The Palestinians want their own country. There's just one thing about that: There are no Palestinians. It's a made up word. Israel was called Palestine for two thousand years. Like "Wiccan," "Palestinian" sounds ancient but is really a modern invention. Before the Israelis won the land in war, Gaza was owned by Egypt, and there were no "Palestinians" then, and the West Bank was owned by Jordan, and there were no "Palestinians" then. ... read full story / add a comment ![]()

The day was peaceful at the beginning and many different people from all walks of life partied. Live music, song and dance entetained us. But there is always a small minority who promote agrivation. I hope the incidents of violence done over shadow the highlights of the day- the good weather, the people we met and the dancing we did. ... read full story / add a comment

as i was walking from the damn street massacre to the civic offices i saw a number of people who had been wearing "casual" clothes - trainers, jeans, etc (male and female) put on pig jackets and get their radios out. there was a clear undercover element there from the very start yesterday ; critical mass was tailed by two pig vans - while usually they only pick up on it from about half way on and tag along to the end. SO watch out in future, this is going to cause the pigs some serious hassle (anyone hear joe duffy today?) [their own fault of course], and they'll be looking to infiltrate what is obviously one of the most threatening political movements to emerge in years. ... read full story / add a comment ![]()

As a peaceful participant at the RTS protest I stood at the top of Dame street and did a headstand in the road in protest at what I had just witnessed, a young man being battoned on the head for no apparent reason. I was subsequently arrested(and assaulted in the police van) and the following is one of my official charges; "you the said accused....did an act to wit:engaged in the act of a handstand in the middle of a junction so as to cause or was likely to cause the traffic through such place to be obstructed." I wonder will it literally be laughed out of court, or could i catch them on a legal technicality as I was actually "engaged " in a headstand. So you are all welcome to join me at district court 46 on the sixth of June at 10:30am for a yoga demo/display of evidence! ... read full story / add a comment ![]()

It was expected that this would be the largest Dublin Reclaim the Streets to date. What was not so expected was that by the end of the day 24 people would have been arrested and over a dozen hospitalised by a police riot on Dame street. Hi Folks, Eileen Whelan in the Newsroom in RTE wants to get in touch with 'organisers' and participants in RTS yesterday. You can contact her by phoning 01 2083111 and asking to be put through to the newsroom. Think it is worthwhile to tell 'our' side of the story. IMC here have provided them of footage of guards batoning with numbers off. They seem to be on a stick wicket so I don't think we should hold back in telling RTE what went on. Anyone know about hospitalised people? ... read full story / add a comment ![]()
