Jump To Comment: 1 2 3 4It is a pity that your set up media guys could not get all the photos of your scumbag mates running amok on the streets of Dublin. Its not often that I agree with the Police, but they were damn right and should have kicked the arses of everyone there. Get yourselves lives and most importantly.........JOBS. Does Indy Media Group run the protest as your website only carrys story of police hitting people. But hopefully the ringleader is outside the police sataion on Thursday and we can all see him in the papers on Friday for what he really is
I know I'll proboably regret asking this, but...
Why should the police be allowed to hit people repeatedly over the head for exercising their right to protest (in this case about over-use of cars and the lack of public space, which most European cities have already accepted and dealt with by having car-free centres and public squares)? Should we be allowed to hit you repeatedly over the head for protesting about the RTSers?
Eagerly awaiting an intelligent response (holds breath - hesitates - sensibly decides to exhale)
I think the Gardai were wrong, and handled what happened badly. I think some cases of excessive force were used.
I don't however, believe that the entire demonstration was an act of complete civility. Something must have happened to provoke the Gardai. Even if their retaliation was excessive, I think that provocation at some level must be admitted on behalf of some protestors (or third parties unconnected with the march).
Gardai should be treated with respect. They should not be called names, insulted, or their duties interfered with. This is common sense. Even if a minority are acting like thugs, the correct attitude is to always treat a Garda with respect. It's either a case of "They're wrong and I'm Right", ot "They're Wrong but I'm also Slightly Wrong". Choose the higher ground and presume that they're there to help you and to uphold the law. Minorities can taint EVERY group - whether it's protester or law enforcer.
d (not a Garda, but I've heard the other sides of the story too)
this is a lively ass IMC--viva ireland! :)
i just want to say that i could give a fuck about how a cop/pig/garda feels; they are civil servants and as such they serve all citizens equally and fairly.
if the punks can escort a person who might have committed a heinous crime into a courthouse w/ a bullet-proof vest, the least they could do is hand out helmets and padding to protesters (of human social retardedness) before clubbing them like baby seals.
seeing an image/images of pigs man(not a real one either)handling a not just females (which is one issue), but peaceful individuals and often, people just passing through, makes me sick. i've been noticing that the swine have been doing this all over the place.
though i do believe in the larger conspiracy that such police-state actions are a part of world control (blah blah), the reason why this "conspiracy" is able to take place is because of the self-righteousness of pigs and their supporters. such individuals who suck on the breast of the state are IN FEAR--fear of change and loss of perceived power over *their* environment.
most protests that i've read accounts of that have occurred in "the West" have only led to police brutalizing protesters with no police injuries in the majority of the protest inflicted by protesters. (i've heard about maybe a couple of cops in the past couple of years who've been injured, minorly)
i should add that, regardless of the *strange* posts here and there which seem attempts to ruffle feathers at indymedia sites, there is still some evil element in the world..something that lurks in the hearts of humans, that would seem to feed off of misery and pain endured by protesters and people who live under state occupation alike. this force gets off on seeing females (the "creative" essence of Life) viciously subjugated and the minds of the youth reprogrammed and the 'souls' of all living creatures crushed.
there are people who, though it may sound like an exaggeration when someone types "you hippies deserved to get your arse beaten by garda," this is really how some people feel--it's in their black hearts.
even if i felt at times like taking a gun to the head of every homocidal/genocidal racist, hate-filled, abject, scared to live life, woman hating, Life hating, capitalist, forked-tongue, politically inclined (lying) person just so peace on earth could be had, i'd still realize that simply fucking caring is more than enough.
to be the best "human" you can be is a sham--you change in the end.
but that i care about everyone (even the fucking machiavellian pigs if they'd stop beating peoples heads in cuz they're scared to lose their cush jobs which provide "power") and everything in such a way that the *best* meaning of them (the truest meaning) comes through, in turn, helping me to transcend the corrosive experience of passing through this world to become a more complete *being*...
...that i care will never fucking change because i understand more and more each day what it means to reach out beyond myself. this is what the people who like to see you suffer haven't been able to do--get over themselves.
(that damn human ego)
take care all--it's free
