Shakespeare's Birthplace Trust and woke academics are "decolonising" the Bard by downplaying his genius, linking his legacy to white supremacy and scrubbing "offensive" language from its collections.

For anyone who doesn't know, foie-gras is made in a rather unusual fashion. A goose is kept in a cage smaller than is remotely fitting with its head poking out of a hole. A funnel is then inserted into its mouth and it is force fed grain at frequent intervals until its liver swells dramatically.

Everyone knows this. I know this. I eat foie gras. I think it's delicious. Everyone who eats foie gras knows this, and none of them care. Telling them to care isn't going to make them care. Acting 'enlightened' and self-righteous and bullying them is only going to make them hate you. Your protests will be ineffectual.

What utter rubbish!!!

YOU may not care, and many clearly don't, but how dare you speak for others? Are you the leader of some international foie gras consumers group? I think not.

You are wrong on at least 2 counts.

1. NOT everyone who eats the stuff realises how horrific the suffering involved is. I most certainly did not when I ate it years ago.

2. These protests are far far from ineffectual. Many many Dublin restaurants have stopped serving diseased liver since the campaign started. I'm sure the author of the article will be happy to provide you with the full list if you should wish to check them all out.

But I do thank you as your post goes a helluva long way towards showing that the campaigners are not making up fantastical stories of fictional cruelty involved in making foie gras!!! I can't thank you enough. You have confirmed everything we say and who knows? This may just convince one or two people that we are not "crazy hippies with a secret agenda" (or whatever some people think), as it is now here in black and white for all to see, from an unapologetic supporter of cruelty no less!
