1.00PM - Protest at Dept of Justice in support of Maura Harrington

category dublin | crime and justice | event notice author Thursday March 12, 2009 18:54author by Shell to Sea Report this post to the editors

Dept of Justice- St.Stephen's Green-Dublin 2

There will be a protest in support of Maura Harrington at 1.00 PM at the Dept of Justice, 94 St. Stephen's Green, Dublin 2 on Friday March 13th 2009.

Maura has been jailed for one month for supposedly assaulting a Garda during an attempt by Shell to install machinery on private land in June 2007. The Garda claimed that the diminutive Ms. Harrington slapped him in the face. She was not arrested at the time, and no evidence of this slap exists other than the testimony of this and other gardaí.

The judge who sentenced Maura Harrington, Mary Devins, is the wife of a Minister in the Fianna Fáil governement, who back the Shell scheme of which Maura is a long term opponent. Many questions have been asked about the way Judge Devins conducts her juryless court.
