Governments don't stay in power if they make people cold and poor, but that's a lesson Britain's recent and present administrations don't seem to have learned, as green ideology pushes freezing Britain into fuel poverty.

I heard Joe Higgins on the Pat Kenny show last week debating against Ulick McEvaddy. Joe was very good I will be along to hear him on Thursday.

It's not good that these meetngs clash, given the great unity of purpose and attendance at the 14th February meeting in the Davenport:

Next General Meeting of Public Service Alliance,

Date:Thursday Feb 26.

Time: 8.15PM.

Venue: Teachers Club, Parnell Sq, Dublin 1.

The organisers of the public service alliance meeting should have communicated their decision to have a meeting to sp members in the public sector unions and then there wouldn't have been a clash!

SP members were present at the meeting which decided the date for the next NPSA meeting.

The NPSA meeting will discuss the co-ordination of further action in the Public Service and how best to counter the ICTU burocrats. I doubt if Joe Higgins, Denis Keane or Terry Kelleher would wish to see this meeting postponed.

Yes, it's unfortunate that meetings clash. Unfortunately this happens fairly regularly and is sometimes inevitable. Demanding that any group postpone a meeting at a day and a half's notice is obviously not a runner however. So there will be two meetings on on Thursday evening. Given the degree of interest in this issue at the moment that shouldn't be a problem - I suspect that there will be more people at the two meetings combined than would be able to fit into either venue alone.

Jerry Cornelius claims that members of the Socialist Party were present at the meeting which decided there should be a meeting on Thursday night of the public sector workers group. That is not true. No one from the Socialist Party was at the meeting which took that decision.
The Socialist Party decided to have its meeting weeks ago, before Paddy Healy's public service group even existed.
If there is a clash then its an unfortunate co-incidence, but isn't the Socialist Party's fault!

Given Marks response above I think I could be forgiven for thinking that you were just stirring things up.

The date & time for Thursdays meeting was decided with the agreement of SP members who were present at the first meeting.

Jerry, I asked one of the SP members who was at the first meeting and they said that it wasn't agreed at that meeting.

The SP members involved agreed to this date and time please get the person you are quoting to post in here using his name.

Given that a named SP member has posted here already I presume you are just a shitstirrer.

Pritt you are not doing the SP any favours. First of all its not Paddy Healys Group. Over 100 people attended the founding meeting.

Either :

1. The SP have no sizable involvement in a large group of Public Sector Union activists and were unable to influence a meeting time or they were not even in attendance when it was decided on.

Or:

2. The meeting time decided upon suited the majority of those present and the SP members realised that the best option was to go ahead with it even though it clashed with the SP rally. Advancing the interests of the Working Class came before the meeting.

Knowing some genuine activists in the SP I would say that scenario 2 is the most likely one.

There were no members of the Socialist Party present at the NPSA meeting which decided to organise this Thursday nights NPSA meeting in the Teachers Club.

Members of the Socialist Party first heard about this meeting by email on Friday 20 February.

The Socialist Party had already organised its public meeting before last Friday and had posters up in the city advertising the rally.

This is nothing more than a coincidence and not as some would like to believe an attempt by the Socialist Party to be sectarian.

Cutting through the nonsense here. Main thing question Stephen is: why were there no members of the Socialist Party present at the NPSA meeting which decided to organise the Thursday nights NPSA meeting in the Teachers Club?

Why did the SP on foot of a 100+ strong public service workers meeting in the Davenport not take part in the following meeting which decided on the Thursday night meeting- was it not a priority for the SP?
