Labour loves to remind voters how Liz Truss 'crashed the economy', but Rachel Reeves is making the exact same mistake. She's asking the markets to lend the Government vast sums and they're telling her where to get off.

SHELL TO SEA PRESS RELEASE 17/04/2008 - Pipeline route

category mayo | environment | press release author Thursday April 17, 2008 21:52author by JMauthor address Rossport Report this post to the editors

The announcement today of a pipeline route by Shell and Statoil signals further failure by the Corrib developers. The reality is that there is no consent for an inland refinery or any production pipeline in our community.

This proposed route announced today literally cuts through the heart of our community. It exposes not just the people of Rossport but the people of the entire parish of Kilcommon to unprecedented and unacceptable risk. We do not give our consent to this and will resist it through every legal, political and campaigning means open to us, even though this could lead to more years of unnecessary conflict.

This entire project has been the cause of untold misery, strife and unhappiness for our families and community. Our duty is to protect and defend the integrity and safety of our place and people.

This conflict can be resolved if there is a genuine willingness on the part of Shell and Statoil to reach agreement and secure real consent. The tragedy is that there has always been a better way. What we need is resolution and agreement, not the forced imposition on an unwilling community of an unwanted and unsafe project.

forgot, would it be possible to get a look at the new pipeline route?
sounds like it's not a million miles from the original route.

Seems to me that there is no low the government is unwilling to sink to to achieve the most Shell/Statoil friendly 'solution', regardless of the peoples concerns or their rights who live there.
A community under seige, unable to go about their business means nothing to them. Billions given away to foreign companies with no benefit to local people or the wider community means nothing to them.
Because all this defies the simplest of logic there must be monies changing hands at the highest level under the radar of public scrutiny.
My heart goes out to the people of Rossport, to witness the damage done, and under continnued attack, is an endictment of the government not giving a damn about you.
Thugh who line their own pockets with no regard for the incredible suffering of an entire community.
