It includes pardoning the Jan 6th defendants, slapping 25% tariffs on imported goods and kicking men out of women's sports.

Socialist Youth's National Summer Festival CAPITALISM MEANS PROFIT BEFORE PEOPLE
All across the world, the rights and living standards of young people and workers are coming under constant attack by the bosses and their lackeys in government. Young people are being forced to work for low pay bosses, where they have little or no rights. The attacks on the rights of workers are being graphically illustrated by the super-exploitation of migrant workers, which is being used to drive down the wages and conditions of all workers.
This drive to maximise profits is what capitalism is all about. The needs of people are never prioritised. This leads not only to attacks on our rights but to war, as shown by the continuing occupation of Iraq and US imperialism's threats against Iran. This capitalist system is also posing massive dangers to our environment.
YOUNG PEOPLE ARE FIGHTING BACK
Latin America is now a continent in revolt, as young people and workers are continuing their resistance to the domination of big businesss, which has resulted in an enormous increase in poverty in the region. Presidents have been toppled as millions have poured onto the streets, putting socialism back onto the agenda.
Across Europe, there have been general strikes in a number of countries as struggle re-emerges. This shows that young people are not simple victims of the capitalist profit system but are now getting active to defend their rights.
COME TO THE SUMMER FESTIVAL
Socialist Youth has organised this Summer festival as an event where young people can come to discuss the ideas raised above as well as the issues that affect them. I'll be heading along to that event myself. i do so every year and find its an excellent arena for thorough political debate and fraternalising between politically aware youth.
If you are under 25 and interested in politics, you should head along. You dont have to automatically join Socialist Youth by attending, but you will learn a lot of interesting things, and in the evenings have a good laugh with others, listening to music, singing songs and getting up to other forms of general merryment.
IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO GO BUT GENUINELY CANT AFFORD TO PAY THE FULL ASKING PRICE, EMAIL THE ORIGINAL POSTER OF THIS THREAD ITEM, AND I'M SURE SOMETHING CAN BE SORTED ON THAT SCORE.
But a trip to the beach in this weather?? Hope ye are providing snorkel outfits and wet suits!
Time to paint the town of Rathdrum red!!
is there any restriction on age at this event? Will a 30 year old be too old for a 'youth' event?
there is no formal age restriction in Socialist Youth. Most will be in their late teens and early 20s but of course anyone who is interested in discussing these issues will be more then welcome to attend.
Shouldnt this event be free?
Quite right, you don't understand socialism. No socialist has ever argued that all goods should be distributed for free in a socialist society. Still less are the SP obliged to let people in for free when they spend their own money organising this event - they're not getting much in the way of donations FF and FG are used to, people can easily afford to put their hand in the pocket for this - and as was said above, they're willing to be flexible for people who really can't afford it
But this isnt a "good". One could argue it is educational(thats presuming this isnt being run by stereotypical socialists). Isnt education supposed to be free in a socialist world? every FG talk I'v been to is free. Thier national conferance was free, it was a weekend in Doolin.
I have looked at several events organised by Socialist Youth and the Socialist Party on indymedia before and there has NEVER been any talks or debates on Leon Trotsky or on anything to do with Russian or Eastern European history or politics.
I know you have some links on your website to the above, but could it be that many of your members are unaware that you are a Trotskyite party? I canvassed for Joe Higgins and co. in 2004 and I was never told. I know other people that canvassed in the same period that were never told. I knew a former-member who was never told. I also know a Labour Party member who was never told by Joe Higgins that he is a Trotskyite, although he worked with him for many years.
Why isn't there information about Trotsky in SP leaflets? I have been living in Dublin West for 17 years and not one of the SP leaflets I have gotten through the door even mentioned Trotsky. Its strange. Considering that you idolise him, you would think that you would be more eager to let people know about what he stood for and the crimes he committed. Then, you don't want really want people to "go there", do you?
Darren,
At this youth event you will see a commission entitled "The Russian Revolution 90 years on-what is its relevance for today?" undoubtedly this will raise the ideas of Trotsky, the nature of the revolution, Stalinism etc.
If you go through the sp/sy websites you will see numerous references not only to Trotsky but Lenin, Connolly, Marx, Engels, Luxemburg etc. I have been a member for a short period of time but at branch meetings trotskys ideas are regularly brought up and applied to numerous political and economic situations both historical and contemporary. No member of the SP/SY is unaware of our affiliation to trotskys ideas. However this does not mean that we bring them up in every leaflet, conversation and bulletin on indymedia.
Darren Mac an Phríora is a member of Fine Gael who spends all his time on politics.ie hurling insults and abuse at the Socialist Party. Any SP members who post on politics.ie just ignore him - he's not worth the effort.
