The lunatics truly have taken over the asylum. Last Friday Zimbabwe was elected to chair the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development. This week the presidency of the Council of Europe will pass to Serbia. And later this month, Belarus is expected to join the United Nations Human Rights Council. Zimbabwe's travails are well documented at this point: inflation at over 2,200 per cent, crops this year forecast to come in at less than 50 per cent of requirements and major civil, political and human rights violations perpetrated in the name of a government worthy of the worst dictators Africa has known. |

Jump To Comment: 1i can think of a fourth lunatic state that took 73 years to get its act together - sort of.
From 1922 to 1995; with pedophile priests, corrupt politicians, several private armies, hard on Jewish refugees in 1935-45, a compulsory dead language for schools (but not for politicians), a claim to rule an unattractive neighbouring patch, no idea about money, etc. etc. You guessed it.
So why pick on these 3 lousers? Zim 1980, Belarus 1990, Serbia 1995-ish. They haven't even had a decent civil war about an oath yet.
