IWMF have started a blog with the stated purpose" of promoting press freedom
and Journalist resource and fostering communication between journalist freedom
advocates worldwide."

The online magazine by the Phillipine based isiswomen is just out,
it contains links to the iwmf report on safety and security concerns for
journalists and the community media discussion on women in media.

two links , I am publishing here are related to the issue of abortion in Latin and
North America.

Mexico City recently legalised abortion rights for women and there is an archive
document at this link which discusses the religious right's agenda in relation to
the global women's movements and reproductive rights.
There is also a link to the coverage of the issue to al jazeera's english language coverage.

The Christian Right's Global Agenda)
http://www.isiswomen.org/index.phph?option=com/content&...d=204
(in case that does not work , all info is available on their site :-http://www.isiswomen.org

The al jazeera link is :-

http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/97463D17-1089-40...4.htm

The relevant sections are on 'Movement's Within'.

I was going to put this on the 'When States Fail to meet their Legal Obligations' thread
which chronicles the movements by the PiS/LPR to change the reproductive rights
agenda in Poland, which led to the the splitting of the Polish Parliament and the
resignation of the Parliamentary Speaker , Marek Jurek, which incidentially coincided
with the ECHR ruling on The Alicia Tysiac case, but the issues of safety and
security in media and the discussion documents belong to this thread.
will add in the Jurek and Tysiac threads later. (article numbers)

'Mexico City recently legalised abortion rights for women'

No, this is not true. In Mexico City abortion is no longer completely illegal - as today it is legal for the first 12 weeks only.

Still a huge restriction on a woman's right to choose.

The coverage of the abortion story in Mexico City is at the links.

The coverage of the LPR and PiS attempt to change article 38 of the Polish constitution
is at :- http://www.indymedia.ie/article/81988
[entitled :- When States Fail to Meet their Legal Obligation]

The Alicija Tysiac Case is at :- http://www.indymedia.ie/article/81591

The Gender inequalities in Community Media urged to be stopped Article is at:-

http://www.indymedia.ie/article/82265

( no-one would deny that Mexico city has a long way to go in the recognition of the
human rights issues in abortion, including the right to privacy and bodily
integrity of the woman or girl. This issue is also current in Portugal where a
referendum on abortion rights just missed the majority necessary and Jose
Socrates must now legislate with human rights groups and NGO's to provide
free, safe and legal abortion in that country- but the fact remains that the issues
of women's reproductive rights are largely being legislated or changed
under the sponsorship of male dominated, catholic legislatures without
recourse to women and their representatives who largely stand outside
the political and hierarchical structures which are creating these decisions without
dialogue)

The wording of the article that the LPR and PiS tried to change in the Polish
Constitution was :- " To protect human life from the moment of conception".
This also closely coincided with the abolition of all abortion (including ectopic
pregnancies in Nircaragua ) which included the then presidential hopeful
Daniel Ortega- after a campaign by the Catholic Church during the
Nicaraguan presidential election campaign.
