I am holding a meeting in the Embassy Rooms in Sligo on Sunday 11th March at 6pm. The aim and purpose is to establish an animal rights activist group in Sligo county. All are welcome, and I have reason to believe that there will be tea and coffee provided! |

Is this going to be an Animal Rights activist group??? or welfarists/media whores posing as AR people??? (by that I mean the PETA types who support the L'oreal (vivisecting scumbag)owning Bodyshop and tell people to watch "Kill it, Cook it, Eat it" - the very use of the impersonal pronoun denoting a profoundly speciesist mindset)
This is actually important to know in advance, as many of us have wasted valuable time on ridiculous, meaninigless and totally worthless demos with groups such as ARAN simply because "down the country" we are not exactly spoiled for choice as far as AR groups go... If anyone is interested in really making a difference in the West, through non-violent direct action as opposed to media-whore attention seeking, I suggest you go on the mailing list of Animal Liberation Action Galway at [email protected].
just want to wish steven the very best of luck with this group i also think that groups who help animals through effective media events are doing a very worthwhile job because they are helping to bring serious attention to the animals situation - they don't have the big budgets to spend on advertisement like those other big animal abusing industries have - instead of attacking groups that actually help animals why not spend your time directing your comments to companies that test on animals like L'oreal, Procter & Gamble and many more - and even for you catlady if you are doing anything to help animals then well done but try not to knock groups helping animals its not fair
I agree with 'animallover2007' there is no need to sound off on groups that help animals, i think they are all doing good work to help one way or the other. Question, what have you done cattlady to help animals? Have you a website that we can go on and find our more about what you are apparently doing? you've talked nothing but rubbish and nonsense to say the least - you should not knock these groups who have a long history here in ireland.
I have also being looking back on previous comments you have posted on animal rights forums on indymedia and it seems to be the you lounge around indymedia.ie waiting for the next article to be posted in order to throw in you two pence worth, make you're time more productive, but back off groups helping animals who ever the hell you are or whatever the hell you do
have you seeing a video on aran's website, pretty impressive i would say - its a must see, way to go aran and others who campaign for animal rights in ireland!!!

“The animals of the world exist for their own reasons. They were not made for humans any more than black people were made for whites or women for men." --- Alice Walker
I totally agree with Catlady.
People need to know what they are getting themselves into before they start joining an organistation.
Many of us have fallen into the 'welfarist trap' - believing that we are in an animal rights group when we are really in a group of attention-seeking exhibitionists. Nudity, and other general media-whore behaviour does not help any animal whatsoever. It's only purpose is to fulfil the ever increasing egos of people who claim, whether they believe it themselves or not, that they are helping animals.
Ireland needs more animal RIGHTS groups, not just another carbon-copy of welfarist, media-addicted organistaions like ARAN or PETA.
