Vol. James ‘Josie’ Connolly Cumann Ógra Shinn Féin, Castlederg, are preparing to Launch ‘Awaiting the Lark’, published by Ógra Shinn Féin. The Launch will take place in Aghyaran GAA Centre on 16th September at 8 pm.

Speakers on the Night will include Derry man, Charlie McMenamin and National Organiser, Barry McColgan who both wrote for the book. Also speaking will be recently appointed Ógra Shinn Féin Uladh organiser Andrea O’Kane and West Tyrone ÓSF Chairperson Barry McNally.

‘Awaiting the Lark’ is a collection of personal memories, recollections and accounts from different republicans of the Hunger Strike of 1981. it was launched nationally earlier in the year and to date thousands of copies have been sold, both in Ireland and nationally.

Speaking ahead of the launch chairperson of the Vol. James ‘Josie’ Connolly Cumann Ógra Shinn Féin in Castlederg, Eunan Carlin said ‘Undoubtedly the hunger strike of 1981 was one of the most influential periods in the present phase of the struggle for Irish freedom. It smashed attempts by the British Government to label the Irish republican struggle for freedom and independence as ‘criminal’.
This book produced by young republicans is a fitting way to spread on the memories of that turbulent time in recent Irish History”

In closing he urged people from Castlederg and the surrounding areas to attend the launch and remember with pride the 10 men who died in 1981. ENDS

Why are OSF posting under the name EIRIGI!

Are they part of the recent split from SF too?

Maybe the Derry man could fill them in on the evictions of the 17 families on Donnybrewer Road by Derry City Council [ Sinn Fein, SDLP & DUP ] in order to facilitate the Anti-union Ryan Air.

I'd love to see his face if someone would dare ask!

Would the Lark Bobby Sands have been a party to evictions on behalf of any Capitalist blood sucker?
Of course not! So stop using his memory to further the lie that SF are a Socialist Party.

I am a member of the Derry SWP, and I've sat at meetings and heard discussion over these evictions, the debate formed 2 camps, those who wanted to attack SF and use emotive words like 'EVICT' to emphasise a campaign that would supposedly decrease support for SDLP and expose SF as non-Socialist, and thus the SWP would regain this lost support (electorally etc) the other camp was those that genuinely wished to campaign on behalf of the families and find out the families opinions and the true story behind the issue - not purely anti SDLP and SF and electorally driven.

No doubt the camp who wished to exploit the situation won the debate and a strategy to satnd local candidates on the issue was adopted, i hate to admit it but we failed miserably - we didn't elect a single candidate, never mind our high profile Eamonn McCann.

Truth be told, some of the 17 families infact 9 of them actually welcomed the move 'NOT EVICTIONS' from there home. They welcomed the expansion of the Derry Airport, and got a healthy sum in order to facilitate their agreed move.

In future i think if we are to campaign then it should be genuine campaigns and not just an oppurunity to attack other parties and try to gain support, we will do that by genuine activity.

I have read countless posts by guttersnipe, i have an incline to who he is, and i would raise my concerns that with people like him about, the SWP will not progress to much in the future.

Derry Socialist my arse! Obviously a member of Sinn Fein. The little" I know who you are!" comment tells all. I've heard and read Eammon McCann use the word evictions many times in the past and your language is the language of those seeking to excuse the EVICTIONS of families on behalf of Ryan Air.

Why do you refuse to let the Derry public know what has been going on behind their backs on this issue?

Well I see that the Sinn Feiner in Socialist clothing has gone into hiding. But that's not surprising really as I asked a really awkward and embarrassing for Sinn Fein question. These usually shut them up!
Anyway back to the pretension, as if anyone with a titter would criticize his / her own party publicly as the supposed Derry Socialist did. However the thing that really did it for me was the I know who you are veiled threat. The days when you were able to send thugs around to threaten anyone who was openly critical are gone. Anymore threats and I'll report you to Big Ian he'll have you out for another 6 mouths at least.
