Ongoing harassment of Republicans has prompted a protest this Saturday the 27th of May in Starbane. There has always been massive state directed harrassment from the state police, and the past few years in Strabane have been no different, Strabane Republicans young and old have continually been harassed by the RUC/PSNI.

Various attempts have been made to infiltrate Ógra Shinn Fein, Special Branch have approached numerous members in an effort to recruit them as informants. Members of Strabane Ógra Shinn Fein have remained resilient and adjusted to the continuing harassment that they endure on a daily basis.

Ógra Shinn Fein members have been singled out and arrested on numerous occasions. John McDermott, organiser of Strabane Ógra, has been arrested, charged, convicted and harassed on more than one occasion. However this treatment is not spared for anyone person, every member of Strabane Ogra Shinn Fein has been arrested as a direct result of his or her political beliefs, with the large majority of charges dropped at the last minute.

Colleen McSorley, Ógra Shinn Féin spokesperson said,

'We in Ógra Shinn Fein are actively campaigning against and for massive changes to this so called police force. The people of Strabane, Tyrone, and all over the 6 counties deserve an accountable community based All Ireland police service. I would urge people to attend the 'Smash Political Policing Protest' this Saturday, at the Library on Railway Street at 2.30pm. Turn out to the protest in numbers to show the RUC/PSNI that the people of Tyrone will defy their political, securocrat agenda!'
