news report
Saturday July 16, 2005 23:28 by Tommy Donnellan - Shell to Sea
No attenuation of support for the 5. On the streets of Ballina this time, the Mayo people and protesters from further afield demonstrated their anger and contempt against the iniquitous jailing of the Rossport Five and the robbing of our resources by criminal Shell and their fellow-travellers in government.

just wondered about rally in Ballina. was it a day out for families?why bring children to an issue that is as serious as this one. what do kids know of the dangers of gas? also passed Ballineboy the other day. it was like a playground with all the kids that were there kicking a ball around, do the parents not realise that that is a main road. God above get your priorities right .
Dear Ballina Ladie,
Of course it's appropriate for children to be at a rally such as that in Ballina. Of course it's a family day out: families are affected - everyone is affected - by the increasing power of corporations and their disregard for health, safety, the environment and society. Willie Corduff said he was prepared to go to jail because he wanted to protect his six children from a dangerous pipeline. Children would be at risk of death from this pipeline if it was allowed to go ahead.
Actions such as the rally in Ballina should not be seen as a dangerous activity: they can be empowering, community-building, inspiring. They can make you feel safer rather than more dangerous.
