It may come as a shock to readers of "the Irish Voice" (prop. N. O'Dowd, Sinn Fein/IRA armpit warmer) that there are Irish people legally employed in the security industry in Iraq, the United States, and elsewhere. There are thousands of Irish men and women in the British Army (one was killed on active duty in Iraq), United States Marine Corp, Army, Air Force and plenty of Irish men in the French Foreign Legion too.
And what's wrong with that?

I hope you'll be signing up for this 'security duty' in Iraq sometime soon, Tone, hmmm? Or are you going to defeat the forces of darkness by spamming a crappy board no one who matters will ever hear of?

its such a loaded term that it has become nonsensical, I mean would you call the Irish Guards mercenary?

author by joepublication date Fri Jun 17, 2005 11:32author address author phone Report this post to the editors

or hired guns etc. You would wonder how someone was raised who decides on a career choice to kill people for a living. Twisted! These people have only one loyality $$$$$$$. They spent their youth 'pulling their wires' looking at weapons instead of naked women

There was a piece in one of the Cork papers the other day about a wounded Corkman arriving home from Iraq. Very little other information, This is probably the guy though.

Killing people for money is generally frowned upon in normal civilised society, what we like to call murder. Taking what doesn't belong to you is generally frowned upon too, this we call stealing. So killing while stealing is very much frowned upon. Christians even used to have these things called the ten commandments, I'm almost sure they don't like killing or stealing either, But maybe they changed them, I haven't been to church in a while. And bush says he's one...

that there is a few "fightin irish" out there still. Some that actually DO belive in fighting and making use of their expensive tax funded training. As for being a mecenary it is a noble and long standing tradition throughout irish history, from the gallowglasses to the wild geese.Oh and not forgetting the hundreds of "Irish mecenaries" who fought in Spain in the Spainish civil war for the Republic side.
I think why the most posters are pissed off here is because he is IRISH and we wouldnt do such nasty things as fight against "oppressed"people or take money for such things..Well lifes a bitch!!Plenty more where he came from.If I could get a contract I would be out there too in the morning.Money is better than pissin around here on a security job.At least you can shoot back at them out there, instead of being slaughterd by some little crackhead[proably indymedia posting] sawn off shotgun weilding scumbag.

Between the scumbag with a sawn off and the scumbag over in iraq murdering people for their oil ? Theres fuck all noble or gallant about it . its still theft , its still murder .

I wouldnt be surprised of this tramp from cork was an ex british soldier .

If you want to go to iraq that badly why not get a job as a driver or something , loads of vacancies and well paid .

Go on , your obviously unhappy with your job monitoring the theft of trolleys from Dunnes car park and fantasising about killing people . Best of luck to you

Ashure is pissed off because he is proably from both nationalities.Proably his momma is British and she was serviced by a GI stationed in the UK. ROTFLAMO
Man ,it is fun to see the vitupiterative and pathetic responses to somthing that fits the "supposed norm "here. Go join your school debating teams boys, you both need to concentrate on "how to win an arguement 101."

Being from the legion he had no business in Iraq as his country of choise had refused to send troops. He is a turncoat twice. May he rest in pain.

It's late, and perhaps there's some black humour in the comments above that I'm missing, but I find them generally inhumane. People above seem either to wish this man - who's in hospital and probably in a lot of pain - dies from his injuries, or makes a speedy recovery so he can return to Iraq and cause others to die of similar injuries.

He's a person, and his family in Cobh are people too!

AKA a muderous IRISH Cowardly back shooting bomb laying ...hmm actually sounds like the Arab terrorists in Iraq.Would write and still hold onto pithy little sayings like that.Proably the kind of juvenile creep that is great at shouting or posting sayings, but would shit themselves if given a real provo mission.but it doesnt take much to blow up civvies anyway.Just about all the the big tough, glorious IRA is capable of.Your day came and went.Hope you blow yourselves up one day, whilst making an IED.No one will cry for you anyway.

Only real men drop bombs from aeroplanes on sleeping children. It's the ones who strap bombs to themselves and die with the blast who are the biggest cowards.

Every day it's apparent this war is more illegal. Bush stated yesterday that they attacked Iraq because of Sept 11. Utter nonsense, he is now right back where he started; a lame duck president.

The 'people' who think that 'our boys' in Iraq are there for a noble cause are deluded. They are war-criminals, to the last man. If they get out alive they will be prosecuted for war-crimes in the future.

Visit this opinion poll currently running at MSNBC - you'll see what I mean.
