Come Along To The Film "Precarity" and Banner Making Workshop For The Get Up Stand Up Bloc

category national | worker & community struggles and protests | event notice author Monday April 25, 2005 18:07author by get up stand up Report this post to the editors

From fast food outlets, to assembly lines, from corner shops to hyper markets there is one common relationship. That is the relationship between boss and worker. These two classes have nothing in common, and a constant struggle is fought between them. Over the years we have won free education, free healthcare, the welfare state, the 5 day week, the 8 hour day and the other rights. It's time we organized to defend these rights and to win more.

The address is 23 Inchicore Road, about 6 houses after Kilmainham gaol. It used to be a shop but is now a private house.

PRECARITY Précarité/Precariedad/Precarietà /Precariteit/Prekarität

"MayDay! MayDay! We are the precarious. We are hireable on demand, available on call, exploitable at will and fireable at whim. We have become skilful jugglers of jobs and contortionists of flexibility. But beware! We are agitating with a common strategy to share our flexfights..."

The multilingual DVD “Precarity” is part of an ongoing experiment of collective self-defense. It is a compilation of 17 videos documenting on the rebellion of precarious flexworkers across the continents.

From the occupation of abandoned factories in Argentina, to the interruption of the French prime time news and the devotion to Saint Precarious at the Mayday Parade in Milan, the DVD is advertising a new brand of labor activism. It is a toolbox to investigate on new modes of collective action and an instrument for the radical organization of the consumerized younger generation.

The DVD “Precarity” contains 197 minutes of high resolution digital video and is the third episode of the DVD-zine “P2Pfightsharing”. It was born through the sharing of resources, material and skills throughout the networks of independent videomakers, media-activists, translators, authoring technicians and fightsharers.
