category cork | sci-tech | event notice author Saturday January 08, 2005 20:31author by harry potter. - "all together now"author address la la la la land. Report this post to the editors

here's what you have to do.

Cork as you know is European Capital of Culture for 2005.

This means you all really have to get your little selves down to Cork, and up and down those hills.

& indeed many of you already did.

a lot of grá for Cork.

Daghda dance company have nicely put together a project for ye all Europe's capital of culture.

You go there tomorrow and see lots of dance.
hear lots of music.
from all over the world.
not just your purist celtic stuff.

And then you'll get a stainless steel ring.

Loads of people are getting their stainless steel rings "right now".

if you see someone else with a ring that looks just like yours here's what you can do-

... cross their path
... steal a gaze
... send a telepathic message
... swap rings
... create your own response

"all together now".

"something for everyone?"
oh well if you thought you were getting "Cork European City of Culture 2005" on your CV for nothing short of a lot more effort at representing european and global culture than simply asking a wide range of artists and groups over - you've another thing coming.
Lazy Langers!

"Others suggested this month's opening fireworks spectacular, complete with a giant river-serpent was out of touch. The snake related to a Cork folk tale not known to most spectators. To make matters worse, a writer in the Irish Times pointed out that the colours for the logos were the black and gold of Kilkenny, not the red and white of Cork.

"The organisation was seen as removed from the people of the city," said Mick Hannigan, founder of the Cork film festival and a member of Where's Me Culture?

"We had a groundswell of support from people who were variously disillusioned, disenchanted or angry about Cork 2005. There are great things in the programme, but it hasn't excited the popular imagination. There has been no big idea, no great vision of how to transform the city on an emo tional and intellectual level."

Andrea Kennedy, a Cork club owner who has worked in pirate radio, warned of a "formalised" programme of events emanating from a "cultural bunker" which had not exploited the goodwill of Cork people by enlisting volunteers. "

Each of these Cork companies has invested 1000€ minimum in tying their name to the 2005 European Year of Culture. Have a look at them, if any are exploitative, encourage bad worker or environmental practise, are ecological unsustainable, then say so.
Print it up and let everyone know. You should ask the langers at €U2005 for the dosh to do this. And if they say no, let me know. & I'll get the UN and ISAF and Lichtenstein and the spanish inquistion unto them for ye. Coz the langers are chalking up CV points in Europe's name with lots of european as well as local cash and goodwill.

For example you might be wondering why "weighwatchers" is sponsering a cultural event in the name of Europe, when the rest of us outside arts and media mediocrity land are trying to get people to feed the poor. Maybe they think it's funny, sure dancers are faddy on the nutrition. And there's quite a few chem. companies there, it is modern and contemporary cultural practise to look hard at these sort of people and ask the questions.

Just came across this web-site -www.corkschoolofculture.com - seems to be a challenging way of really exploring Irish history, culture, identity, environment etc.
