From handing over the Chagos Islands to compensating Gerry Adams, Starmer's decisions owe more to human rights lawyers than sound politics. He needs to sack his chum Lord Hermer before he shipwrecks his Government.

One figure that has been repeatedly cited in the grooming gangs debate is that 1 in 73 Muslim men in the town of Rotherham has been prosecuted for grooming gang offences. However, this figure is slightly misleading.

Roisin Dwyer

apologies from Barry Finnegan, Mark Grehan & Mary Kinane.

agenda:
possible venues,
intro to the social forum & speakers from ESF & WSF
suggested workshops & plenaries
publicity.
feedback forms
workshop forms to send to speakers / organisations & online forms
website-could possibly use ESF letter as a model.

provisional date for the 2nd Irish Social Forum is the 1-3rd of October.
possible venues are UCD , Bolton St & the ATGWU.
suggested plenary topics were:

multiculturalism / immigration
localization & globalization
heritage ( Tara Skryne valley etc.)

suggested workshops so far:

debt & development
EU constitution
GM foods
sustainability
privatization
palestine & israel
brief discussion on best & worst bits of first irish social forum last october.

was suggested that plenaries be held at a different time to workshops so everyone can attend.
Liz suggested the plenaries be focused on information exchange, building links & possible solutions / development of existing projects rather than a very broad topic.eg. in the case of one on immigration- info from anti-racism & immigrant support groups on what they're doing & what help they need .

mirien suggested having info from previous european social forum & the world social forum with videos or speakers if possible.

we threw out some questions for discussion.
eg the formation of a media group to do press releases etc.

social / fundraiser
roisin has offered to contact musicians for a gig /fundraiser once we have a definite date & venue & help publicise ISF.

Mirien will contact sustainable ireland & latin american solidarity about putting on workshops/ talks & see if we can get a capoeira demonstration.

sorry for delay in posting . wonky work week.
please add what i've forgotten.
ta,
liz

Is first weekend in October not too close to the ESF in London on 14th October? If you really want it to be an Irish, as opposed to Dublin, event then you have to take into account the fact that many of us will be off to London for the ESF just two weekends after your proposed date. I already have my flights booked to London. No way could I organise childcare etc. for a second weekend so close. I'm sure I am not alone in this.

just curious to know if those flights are booked with Ryanair? not getting at anything, (yet), just interested.
