Clondalkin people march to save Round Tower from developers

category dublin | environment | news report author Monday June 21, 2004 14:51author by Naomh Crónán Report this post to the editors

500 plus people marched on Sunday against plans to build apartments and a pub beside Round Tower in Clondalkin Village

Over 500 people of all ages marched yesterday (Sunday 20th June) to protest the planned development of the half acre site beside the Round Tower in CLondalkin. The march was organised by the (non-political) "Rally Round the Tower" group and left from the grounds of Áras Chrónán, led by the Clondalkin Pipe Band.

A broad range of people were there, families, older people, Scouts etc

Developers lodged a planning application recently to build an apartment block, a pub/restaurant and an interpretive centre on the site. Rally Round the Tower have called on the Government and South Dublin COunty Council to buy the land and develope it as a heritage centre.

Ní ghlacann muintir Cluain Dolcáin leis an iarracht seo ár ndúchais a loite, tá an Chloig Teach ansin le 1200 blian anuas, ní féidir leis an ngluain seo ligint do aon dream é a scriosadh.

Anti-social behviour was a rising problem in Saint Johns Park, Clondalkin. The campaign to stop anti-social behaviour conducted a campaign to help stop these activities by certain individuals on the road. Its success is evident by the quietness and peace on the road. The people who everybody least suspected were the ones who encouraged others and young children to commit acts of anti-social behaviour against their neighbours. These same individuals are now restricted to whistling or singing sneering chants when their neighbours pass by. Funny , but he same chant and sneering individual is a GAA member...so much for an active member. The victims of their action can live with this.

A Great story about the antisocial activities orchestrated by a small number of residents living in a suburban local authority housing estate in Clondalkin who made a life of hell for their neighbours.

There is a great story now emerging about all the antisocial activities that took place on Saint Johns Park West Clondlakin.According to a number of antisocial websites, it has now emerges that individuals in authority, people who should have remained neutral on issues relating to problems of antisocial activities in this housing estate, have now overstepped that authority by becoming directly involved in the defense of those who caused so much heartache and pain to their fellow neighbours. Websites have been forcefully removed, names given to website providers, individuals follow and track antisocial websaites for comments that mention certain words. Websites are being asked to 'name and shame the aggressors' yet the same people hold an alternative motive when trying to secure the infromation from the many websites. The victims of th`e antisocial activities are now being portrayed as the aggressors, with denials from those who support the real aggressors proclaiming that no such antisocial activities ever took place. To date no single individual who was or continues to be, a victim of these antisocial activities, has been approached by people in authority in the local area in order to listen to their version of events that have taken place.
A site worth viewing in order to get a clearer understanding of the problems faced by descent law abiding people at the hands of a small number of individuals on this road.

Dear Philip,

Are you connected to this 'campaign' in anyway?

Your post seems to be copied & pasted word for word from their websites.

I'm confused about your claim "Websites are being asked to 'name and shame the aggressors' yet the same people hold an alternative motive when trying to secure the infromation from the many websites."

Does this 'campaign' feel it has the right to make wide sweeping allegations without any proof about people and organisations and when asked for specific information you claim this is a bad thing?

Have you discussed this matter with your local parish priest or the Guards? Surely if as this 'campaign' claims that a 'campaign of terror for over twenty years took place' that a substantial amount of people would have been arrested and be serving time - can you clarify this?

Paul Reynolds, Clondalkin.
