Young PDs go socialist

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Friday April 23, 2004 11:36author by Hosianna Mataauthor email youngpds at hotmail dot com Report this post to the editors

As youngpds.org site moves to indymedia.ie

So, the the YPDs are right wing, capitalist loving people, but they're too tight to pay $10 to renew their domain name, and so it expired last night.

Well, being the concerned person that I am, I decided to nab it and for now its redirecting here, to indymedia, in all its glory.

And whats great, is that its all legal.

They didn't pay, they lost the domain, I went and bought it.

;)

The main PD website www.progressivedemocrats.ie now has a direct link to indymedia on their homepage! Probably because of McDowells love of the free press.

I wonder is all of their email also being sent to indymedia?

Why dont doesnt someone setup a special YPD page, for all those people looking for their website, with the real facts about their party?

the young pds have lost their site until
2005-04-15 14:27:46 when it expires again.

so, the youngpd site will be pointing to indymedia for the forseeable future, so a special welcome message would be a nice thing to do, to welcome all those misguided people. the sunday press will be interested in it too........

While young PDs sleep, anarchist raids their web domain

Sunday April 25th 2004

LARA BRADLEY

THE Young PDs are seeking legal advice after losing their website to a group ofanarchists.

The domain name www.youngpds.org was due for renewal last Thursday night, but the Young PDs overlooked this. The next morning a cyber squatter called 'Hosianna Mata' bought the name.

Now all the site's traffic is automatically redirected to the ultra left-wing indymedia.ie site.

Mata said: "So, the YPDs are right-wing, capitalist-loving people, but they're too tight to pay $10 to renew their domain name, and so it expired. Well, being the concerned person that I am, I decided to nab it and for now it's redirecting to indymedia, in all its glory.

"And what's great is that it's all legal. They didn't pay, they lost the domain, I went and bought it."

The main Progressive Democrat website had a link to www.youngpds.org on its homepage, but this was hastily removed two hours after Mata took over the domain name.

Indymedia.ie was set up three years ago by a group of activists returning from the G8 summit in Genoa. It is an open site where left-wing anarchists regularly post details of protests, including many on the upcoming May Day marches.

Founder Ciaran Moore said: "We weren't aware of this before the notice was posted, but it's perfectly legal and it is very funny. Michael McDowell recommended last year that people should log on to our website to check out what the anti-war movement were up to, so we welcome all comers."

Chairperson of the Young PDs, Diane Duggan, was less amused. While at first admitting the failure to renew the domain name was "an oversight", she went on to say: "We are looking into the legal ramifications of this. We weren't intending on continuing with that domain name anyway and were thinking of changing to www.youngpds.ie.

"I think it's a bit childish. It frequently occurs that there is a lot of bickering between political youth wings, but we've never stooped that low.

"I'm not sure why they did this, but I think we have been fairly prominent in the media lately.

"I've never seen the indymedia website before, but I think it's fairly left wing."

If anyone would like to take the domain over, first person to ask a domain registrar to transfer it to them gets it.

[email protected]

I'm sure people can think of many a creative thing with it. Me, my work is done, and I must move on....

OGRA - you're next!!! :)

I know you mean well, but I would not wish to be associated with the pds in any way.
Why not sell it back to them? It's a free market.

Ogra?
Go fot it!

Why don't the Young PD's just register an ie. domain?

Then, rather than pursue legal action against our hero here with a solicitor's letter they should spend their 30 Euro on registering www.fuckindymedia.com (still available) and redirecting that to their site....
