Dundrum Billboard Liberation Front Strikes.

category dublin | anti-capitalism | news report author Monday February 09, 2004 13:50author by Dundrum Bill Board Liberation Front Report this post to the editors

Coke Can't Hide Is Crimes In CoLombia.

As darkness descended across Dundrum, in the early hours of Sunday, February 8th, truth splattered across a Coca Cola bill board beside Ryans Pub in Windy Arbor. A sleeper squadron of the Dundrum Billboard Liberation Front was activated in solidarity strikes with Colombian trade unionists.
Blood red paint and slogans were added
Blood red paint and slogans were added

The slogan 'Boycott Killercoke' burst through the cracks in the advertised lies of a corporation that has systematically engaged in a campaign of harrasment, violence and murder against members of the Sinaltrainal union in Coca Cola Bottling plants in Colombia. The Colombian Union Sinaltrainal called an international boycott Of Coke whichwas launced by the World Social Forum last July 22nd. Since then students in UCD have voted twice to boycott Coke products and a student vote is also planned in Trinity and Maynooth.

Scouts for the Dundrum Billboard Liberation Front filed reports this morning that within little over 24 hours the bill board has being cleared of any traces of the BLF strike. Coke in the past have been known to hire people to carry out clean up operations where ever graffiti appears exposing the corporation. But we of the Dundrum Billboard Liberation Front will not cease our activities until all Coke advertising in Dundrum has been "liberated" and speaks the truth about Coke's appalling human rights record in Colombia.

This action is part of an international campaign aimed at exposing the truth about Coca Cola. We are calling on the people of Dundrum to join us in this campaign and to use their creativity and imagination to expose Coca Cola for who they are. All it takes is a small bit of paint and a couple of minutes for anyone to become part of our growing movement.

Implicitly, this growing movement is also concerned with the preservation of public space which is constantly under threat from ghastly billboards and advertisements. Subverting billboards is symbolic resistance, an act of individual outrage which tears through the surface of the modern consumer nightmare. But the manifest erosion of public space is very real as is the case with the Airfield trust. Buckets of paste and paint will not defeat the land speculators; community self organisation and resistance will.

All power to the insurrection of the imagination.

Good work, lets see more of it everywhere and not just in Dundrum.

I can't believe that the Dundrum Billboard Liberation Front has taken credit for the hardwork of the Dundrum Adbust Collective! Yet again they try and split the movement!

COMMUNIQUE ONE FROM CONTINUITY BLF.

We in the continuity Billboard Liberation Front reject the scandalous allegations made by our former comrades above. Such allegatations should not be made on the internet where the prying eyes of the state, the Mistorans, the 24 civilisations and their collobarators in the corporate power block can see disunity in our movement. Seeing as they have been made, we feel obliged to reply.

The dispute has a long and nefarious history within the movement. After we took the decision to go undeground in preparation for waging struggle against the colonizing force of advertsiements in our communities and neighbourhoods, a small sect within the movement began to operate as a faction contrary to all the principles of individualism which we in the movement uphold.

As usual these philosophical meanderings became clear in the course of struggle as tactical differences emerged.

The adbusters collective rejected the doctrine of individual action against bill board in favour of collective moves against corporatism.

We in the Continuity BLF hold true to the tactical tradtions of our movement. We reject the inevitable hierarchy that will emerge from collective action against the colonising force. To their slogans of 'share the crayons and markers', we intervened with 'DOWN WITH INDIVIDUAL MONOPOLISATION OF THE CRAYONS, UP WITH THE SOCIALISATION OF MARKERS IN THE HANDS OF INDIVIDUALS.'

We in the C-BLF recognise the FAKE LEFTIST BOURGEOISE philosophising of our former comrades who believe that they can simply avoid confrontation with the state, by some how circumnavigating it and sharing markers, with out first having soviets across the land. There can be no socialisation and sharing of markers untill there is a wider socialist revolution which can only be brought about by a true LENINIST VANGUARD PARTY, the nucelus of which we aim to build.

Our experiences with this so called adbuster grupsucle is a testament to this fact.

On one mission these splitters demanded that we all share responsihbilty for the action; carrying the paints, paste and so on.

We reject this monopolisation of the means of producing subvertisements. We opt instead for modes of operation which safe guard the soverignty of the individual. In future Contintuity BLF actions, each of our members shall be equiped with the adequate supplies to carry out the outrage without the assistance of others. They shall then line up and fling themselves in to action against at the target site. While the others pretend to wait for buses.

One of them will be bound to get it right.

DOWN WITH FAKE LEFTIST ADBUSTERS! UP WITH THE ANTI CORPORATE STRUGLE!

NO OPPORTUNISTIC USE OF MARKERS ON THE 48A!

WE SAY WHEAT PASTE OVER SELLOTAPE AND WALLPAPER PASTE!!

However I feel that it's important to point out that this sort of elitist direct action actually turns the average person in society off the idea of subvertising billboards.

Can I interest anyone in campaigning for a mass subvertisement movement which will being by appeals to the trade-union base within the billboard erection and maintenance industry?

...so every time I see one of these billboards I'm going to by a case (yes a case) of Diet Coke.

I drove past this one yesterday twice and now am enjoying a plentiful supply of a cheap, Irish made, refreshing and stimulating beverage.

Yum yum.

I'll be driving past it again later today on my way to Churchtown, and if the adbust is still there it's another case of DC for me!

If you keep it up at a case or so a day, I give you a week to live. Another great victory for the DBLF - one less moron in the world!

author by Ballionpublication date Tue Feb 10, 2004 11:55author address author phone Report this post to the editors

....about a can a day (probably a case of twelve a week between me and the missus). I pass there rarely enough (thrice in two days is an abberation).

Not a moron... just able to think for myself.

I like the taste, and have decided that my response to the (somewhat) justified but grossly hysterical anti-coke campaign is to resist the boycott positively.

Yum yum.

PS I only drink the diet variety for the sake of my teeth.

haha, this is the funniest thing i have ever read. This fine free thinking person who rushes out to buy excessive quantities of a toxic beverage every time he sees a mind control advertisment.
Brilliant. whatever you do, don't ever watch the home shopping network, your credit card will never forgive you

Ballion,
You fool you only drink diet coke for the sake of your teeth. Diet coke might have less sugar and therefore calories but as any dentist will tell you it is the phosphoric acid of soft drinks (coke or otherwise) that does a lot of the damage. Diet Coke also has this substance and therefore your teeth are on the way out.

Good bye gummy.
