The Special Branch thugs.
branch01.jpg

Here are pics of some of the unmarked special branch thugs that were getting physical with people on friday night. The guy with the New York Yankees hat was filming at the 'grassroots' blockade (full report up in a couple of hours)

when people started to take more pictures of him, HE tried to mask up!

the video guy must be their information gatherer. he has been on demos in dublin in the past.

on friday night when he was challenged he physically threatened a girl after trying to cover up his face. he then ran off after people started to surround him.

anyone have any more information on him? what station is he with?

Guy in last two photos grabbed me on Friday and pushed and dragged me over 20 feet.
Why?

Well, we were standing in a line behind the barricades and the Gardai decided to move the barricades forward, so they just started pushing people, (and in once case slamming a barricade down on a woman's foot). I said "Calm down lads (to the Gardai) this behaviour is a breach of the peace".

-none of the activists were acting up, the anarchists hadn't even said "fuck the police" at this stage.

There was a line of cops (from Clare, Galway and Sligo) including three inspectors and a Superintendent and 6 plainclothes lads.
I asked the superintendent his name but he feigned deafness.

I was pinned up against someone else, and then this other plainclothes guy (not pictured here) shouts "take yer hand off that fucking barrier or I'll fuck you in the cells"

I pointed out to this short-sighted chap that my hands were trapped (it was someone else's hands on the barrier, probably trying to stay vertical)

then the guy in the last two pictures grabs me and shoves me away down the street, giving a bit of verbal as we went, and repeatedly ramming into me.

I asked his name, but he fell mute.
He got annoyed later when Eoin arrived and people started taking his photo. He walked over real close to Conor and said "take that camera out of my face"
Conor, as usual, kept his cool and said "I didn't put a camera in your face, you walked over to me".

None of these lads would even admit that they were Guards with the exception of T.J. in the last photo.

some time later two vans loaded with Riot cops arrived up between the barrier and Ceannt Station. they tried to stay out of view for a while.

I saw these plain clothes guys again the following day going into Mill Street Garda Station, with TJ accompanying the Chief Super (also in plain clothes)

I went in to ask the name of the gardai super who was in charge of the blockade and the member in charge said she didn't know.

I'll just wait till I get my hands on the photos.

All the guys except the one with the camera, I recognise from our weekly picket at Mill St Garda Station. They're all special branch based in Galway, names escape me now but we can let people know.
