More than 600 people
Short summary of the second plenary (Thursday, 7:30pm):
The Bologna Process – criticism and alternatives
On the podium, Lea Brunner, Marzia Foroni, Julien Plaisant and Heiner Fechner discussed about different aspects of the Bologna process. They are students’ representatives from Switzerland, Italy, France and Germany. The range of positions to the Bologna Process reached from rejection of the process to support while criticizing the implementation.

During the discussion, the participants dedicated themselves to aspects of commodification of, access to, the social dimension of education and European mobility with regard to the Bologna process. The participants agreed in a lot of points of criticism of the Bologna process, as the lack of respect of students’ interests. But they strongly disagreed about the strategy for dealing with the Bologna Process. Some want to improve the possibilities of participation while others preferred their alternative models of designing a European education system.

The need for financial support for European mobility was underlined by the panellists. So far, the structure of organising study courses according to the Bologna Process has not led to improvement of mobility or reduction of barriers to access to higher education. The need for participation of university teachers and students in the process of developing a European education was stressed by all participants.

The people in the audience were able to influence the discussion by giving written questions to the moderator.
