Everyone has a history, and we've got a bit of yours
Tá stair ag cách agus tá chuid díotsa againne
Archive Awareness Month September 2003
For the month of September The Society of Archivists, Ireland is celebrating
Archive Awareness Month - with over 30 FREE events being held in Archive
Services across Ireland, there is something for everyone. What will YOU
discover? "Archive Awareness Month, the first ever campaign of its kind, seeks to
promote awareness of archives and the treasures they hold amongst the
general public" explained Eibhlin Roche, Publicity Officer for the Society
of Archivists, Ireland "The campaign is targeted at existing users of
Archives but also seeks to encourage those who have never set foot in an
Archive to do so and discover their own history"
Archive Awareness Month is a month long promotion of celebratory events
being held across Ireland in Archive Services. Local and national archives,
large and small, will open their doors to you.
Archives are a window into the past bringing history to life through
documents, photographs, maps and countless other treasures. A network of
archival repositories exists across Ireland, committed to preserving
archives - the raw material of our country's history.
The key message supporting this is 'Everyone has a history, and we've got a
bit of yours'.
Events are being held countrywide from Dublin to Derry, Waterford to Cork,
with something on everyday. There are over 30 events being held and they are
all FREE. The range of events is diverse from month long exhibitions, to
special evening talks, discovery tours, open days, and even a 19th century
fete!
